Gary: Thanks for the site, but it seems to be incomplete. Some years
ago I
had access to the entire set of American State Papers, Documents,
Legislative and Executive of the Congress (in the Tacoma WA genealogical
library).
I found my Ezekiel Chapman, as here on Ancestry, but Ancestry would not
bring up Daniel Pettibone, which the Chapman listing says to see. In
American State Papers I found the full text - it was about renewal of a
patent right, petition by Pettibone in behalf of himself and Ezekiel, as
original inventors of an improvement in the manner of welding cast steel to
iron (Ezekiel was a blacksmith, and an armorer during the Revolution) - and
several other lists. Ezekiel was not listed under Pettibone in the List of
private claims.
I wrote in 1991 to the Patent and Trademark Office in WA DC to ask for a
copy of the patent, and received a reply a month later. They had searched
office records and found it, and said I could order it from the
Cartographic and Architectural Branch. But they never answered my
request!! I'll try again one of these days. Jean
