Keith,
Thank you so much for sharing this with us! There's nothing that anyone
could add to the point of urgency that you mention about seeing these older
generation people...not just for what we can glean from them as far as the
research goes, but just getting to know them and about them as people.
Please accept my condolences, and appreciation for sharing with us.

Losing two family members in the same week is quite
unusual and for those that like Chapman trivia, the
chance of this happening again is probably quite rare.
My grandparents were Frank George Chapman and Grace
Mae Brassfield Chapman, both from Missouri. They had
eight children.
Two of the children were born in Max, North Dakota,
two years apart.
Austin Ivan Chapman was born November 29, 1915
Muriel Lee Chapman was born August 7, 1917
On October 17, 2000 Austin passed away in Denver,
Colorado.
Two days later on October 19, 2000 Muriel passed away
in Tacoma, Washington
I am not sure if either of them knew that the other
one was in the hospital.
On Monday October 23, separate services were held for
both at the same exact time. Austin's service was at
2:00 pm Mountain Time and Muriel's service was at 1:00
pm Pacific Time.
I did a two week genealogy trip this past August to
the midwest, and four days before the official start
of this trip, my sister passed away unexpectly from
cancer. She was also going on this trip, that we had
called the Greatful Dead Tour. Due to her death I had
to move some travel dates around and one that I gave
up was visiting my Uncle in Denver. I knew that he
might not have long to live, but I told myself that I
would see him on the next trip. Now I wish that I had
made that stop. Much time is spent searching for
answers to those that have gone on before us, but we
must also remember to ask those that are still living
why there is a chance. My mother is 86, and her memory
is still quite good. I plan on doing some tape
recordings with her, before she is gone. Like many
things in life there is always tomorrow, but as I have
found out in the past couple months, tomorrow may
never come for some.
When I stood in those Missouri cemeteries looking at
all those Chapman family stones, I only wished that
they could have spoken, for beneath them, lay many
unanswered questions.
