subject: Re: [CHAPMAN-L] Allen Chapman SC
Going over old emails/ cleaning up and came across this on Henry Chapman.
don't know if someone is looking for him and his family, but I have a lot on
them.. None of this is my work. It was given to me and I have been given
permission to share it. I am sending the first generation with info. If
someone wants more they can contact me and I will be glad to send it to
them. Leslie.
Descendants of Henry Chapman
Generation No. 1
1. HENRY1 CHAPMAN1 was born Abt. 1756 in Spottsville, VA1. He married (1)
ELIZABETH ALLEN1, daughter of ERASMUS ALLEN and SARAH STHRESHLEY. She died
in South Carolina1. He married (2) SARAH GEE1, daughter of HENRY GEE and
RACHEL GEE.
Notes for HENRY CHAPMAN:
We do not now know the parents of Henry Chapman. It was thought by some that
he may have been the son of John Chapman of Spotslyvania County, Virginia
and a brother to John Chapman. Mrs. Elsie Edmonds, author of "John Chapman
of Spotslyvania County, Virginia", an authority on this family says she has
proof that Henry is not a son of this John Chapman. He is possibly a
relative of Giles Chapman. He was probably born shortly before 1756 in
Spotslyvania County, Virginia. In 1783 he was living in Chatham County,
North Carolina.
Henry died circa 1827 in the Darlington District of South Carolina. He
married first Elizabeth Allen, the daughter of Erasmus W. and Sarah
Sthreshley Allen. Her sister, Mary Allen, married John Chapman, brother of
Henry. He married second Sarah Gee, daughter of Henry and Rachel Gee. His
will names 2nd wife, Sarah Gee, children Wiley, Rhoda, Allen,
Henry,Jr.,Frances, Sarah Charles, William Abner, Ambrose. Executors, wife
Sarah andson Henry. His will is in the Darlington County, South Carolina
Will Book 1,page 24, dated May 23, 1812 and probated on October 7, 1822.
Children of HENRY CHAPMAN and SARAH GEE are:
i. ABNER2 CHAPMAN1, b. Darlington, South Carolina1; d. Marion County, Ga.1;

vi. ALLEN CHAPMAN4, b. 17894.
Notes for ALLEN CHAPMAN: Deed recorded Sept 28, 1791 in Prince George
County, Virginia from Allen Chapman to William Bonner conveys the interest
of Allen Chapman in land "whereupon Rachel Gee, grandmother to the sd Allen
and husband to the sd Rachel Gee died seized and possessed and Sarah
Chapman, formerly Sarah Gee, who was daughter of sd Henry Gee and is mother
to sd Allen Chapman who is heir-at-law to his sd mother who has long since
departed this life, and her two sisters, Elizabeth Gee and Winnie Gee..."
Witnesses: Williamson Bonner, Ambrose Heath, John Hight. This Allen Chapman
is the only Chapman listed on the Prince George tax lists. In the 1840
federal census for Gadsden County, Florida an Allen W. Chapman was listed.
Henry Gee, grandson of Henry and Rachal Gee, went to Gadsden County in 1827.

More About AMBROSE CHAPMAN:Burial: Schley Cnty., Ga15
x. RHODA CHAPMAN16,17, b. 178717; m. SILIAS WOOD18, December 04, 1809,
Baldwin County, Ga.19,20.
Notes for RHODA CHAPMAN:in 1808 she was stated as being a minor over the age
of 14. A search of the A.I.S. does not show a Silias Wood/s indexed for the
South in either 1820 or 1830. A Silas Wood is indexed for Jackson Co. Fla in
1840. Jackso Co Fla borders what was then Decatur, Ga. Rhoda Fone by Judi
Johnstone: has her listed as a child of John Chapman and Milly. (I do not
think this is right-I think she probably belongs here with Henry)

Subject: [CHAPMAN-L] Allen Chapman SC
Jan,
I have in my notes that Henry Chapman had a son named Allen born abt 1789
in
NC. Henry Chapman was born abt 1756 in Spotsylvania County, VA, was
living
in Chatham County, NC in 1783, and died abt 1822 in Darlington
County, SC.
Henry married first Elizabeth Allen and second Sarah Gee. Per Henry's
will
(probated 10/7/1822 in Darlington County, SC) his children were
Wiley,
Rhoda,
Allen, Henry Jr., Frances, Sarah, Charles, William, Abner, and
Ambrose.
Of
these children, Henry Jr., William, Ambrose, and Abner moved to
Marion
County, Georgia in the late 1820s.
Per a family tree file that is on WFT CD #2, file #1019:
Deed recorded Sept. 28, 1791 in Prince George County, VA from Allen
Chapman
to William Bonner, conveys the interest of Allen Chapman in land
"whereupon
Rachel Gee, grandmother to the said Allen, and Henry Gee,husband to
the
said
Rachel Gee, died siezed and possessed and Sarah Chapman, formerly
Sarah
Gee,
who was daughter of said Henry Gee and is mother to the said Allen
Chapman
who is heir at law to his said mother who has long since departed this
life,
and her two sisters Elizabeth Gee and Winnie Gee..." Witnesses:
Williamson
Bonner, Ambrose Heath, John Hight.
I am still searching for the parents of Calvin E. Chapman b 1825 in
Darlington County, SC and died 1912 in Chesterfield County, SC.
