One of my gggrandfathers was Gerard B. Chapman. I suspect he was born
around 1870, and believe he migrated to Lower Canada (as an "Empire
Loyalist"} and worked on a rented farm near present day Montreal, about 1800
(with a wife and 1 child). He had about 6 children, including Orlando,
Chester, Olive, Susanah, and Ann. He then (in 1801) became a logging pilot
for Philemon Wright (the fouder of Hull, Quebec, on the Ottawa River,
opposite Ottawa, Ontario), guiding logs down the Ottawa and St Lawrence
Rivers to Quebec City. for export to England. In 1819, the Duke of
Richmond, (an early Governor General) died in his barn, of rabies. Some of
Gerard's grandchildren's names were: Louise, Almira, Adelaide, James, Peter,
William, John, Maria, Milo, David, Elizabeth, Isaac, Gerard, Stephen,
Chester, Orlando, and Thomas. In religion, I believe Gerard was Anglican
(Episcopalian).
I do know if this is a helpful connection to your John Chapman, from
England.

Hello! We are researching the Chapman family, beginning with John
Chapman, who came to America from England with his brothers, Benjamin and
James. We have no specific birth/death dates for these three gentlemen.
But John had 13 children, two of which were Isaac (born 1765), and
Adam
(born 1787). When last heard from in 1882, Adam was 95 years old and
living
in Ohio.
Isaac had at least 8 children:
Daniel Chapman
Elenius Chapman
Olive Chapman
Rebecca Chapman
Roxy Chapman
Uriah Chapman
Isaac Chapman, b. 1803
Jacob Kimble Chapman, b. 12 March 1803, supposedly in Palmyra,
Wayne
County, New York, died 13 December 1870 in Claridon, Geauga County, Ohio.
He
is buried in the West Claridon Cemetary in Ohio with his 2cd wife's family.
Her name was Harriet Allen.
There has been some supposition that Jacob joined the Mormon church,
because he seems to have moved his family alot to all of the places they
settled on their way to Salt Lake City.
Jacob had eight children with his first wife, Juliza Griffith:
Sidney Smith Chapman, b. 12 November 1827 in Ashtabula County, Ohio,
died
2 October, 1893, Chicago, Illinois
Albert B. Chapman, b. 1831 in Loraine, Ohio
Corydon Carlos Chapman, b. 2 April 1834 in Amherst Corners, Loraine
County, Ohio, died April 1944 in Michigan
Hiram Franklin Chapman, b. 1836, Loraine, Ohio
Barbara A. Chapman, b. 1840, Loraine, Ohio
Emma C. Chapman, b. 1842, Loraine, Ohio
Willard D. Chapman, b. 1844, Loraine, Ohio, d. 22 May 1863, Siege of
Vicksburg
Orson O. Chapman, b. abt. 1845
Children with Harriet Allen:
Sarah Chapman, b. 1848
Clifton K. Chapman, b. 1852, died 3 July 1872, Claridon, Geauga
County,
Ohio
We are at a real block wall with Jacob's actual birth location,
because
although this date and place are cited in a history book, we cannot find
any
evidence to support it. Hoping to get more info on his father and uncles.
Any information regarding any of these family members would be much
appreciated.
Thank-you!
Sally Sloane
