Hi there:
I've started trying to dig back into figuring out my Chapman brick wall
once again, and I'm back to Levi C. Chapman. I have conflicting
information that Levi came from either South Carolina, Alabama or
Georgia previous to moving to Texas; Levi appears in the 1860 census in
Texas, and is listed as being from Alabama, although I have not been
able to find anything to corroborate that yet. I have gathered from
many other folks' hard work that this Chapman branch moved from South
Carolina to Georgia sometime around 1840.
Given the predeliction for naming conventions in my Chapman line, I
think it is highly possible that Levi C. was one of Henry Levi Chapman's
sons. If that is true, then the path may lead back to a Henry Chapman,
believed to have been born in Virginia around 1725. (Thanks to Tony
Flowers for this!)
Does this jog anyone's memory? The more I try to figure out which of
the Chapman lines in the southern states I should chase, the more
confused I get!
Thanks so much!
Michael
