I guess I'm trying to find an obvious lead here but don't want to overlook
anything.
Did any of the Chapman lines out of Connecticut mgrate to Georgia between 1827 and
1849?
I know my ggg grandfather was born 1826 in Connecticut and that he married Susannah H.
Gilpin in Upson Co., GA in 1849. Question is did he come with family ... which isn't
obvious or did he leave to "find his fortune" as a young man? He was only 23
when he married so it could go either way.
The family further traveled from Upson Co., GA in 1849 to Trion, Chattanooga, GA in the
1850 census. By the 1860 census the family was in Henry Co., TN.
James Chapman dies between 1863 and 1865 in the US Civil War either after having signed
up in Henry Co., TN or having signed up in Clarksville, Montgomery, TN.
In the 1870 census, his wife and children are in Montgomery Co., TN. In 1880 the family
is dispersed between Montgomery Co., TN; Christian Co., KY; and Todd Co., KY.
After the 1880 census the line leaves Montgomery Co, TN and is in Christian co., KY by
the 1900 census.
After the 1900 census, only 2 branches appear to remain. My gg grandfather's who
was a Chapman and then descendants of one of the female lines that don't use the
Chapman surname. The female line disperses through out the west.
My gg grandfather's line ... James Thurston Chapman (1863 - 1931) ... continues in
Christian County, KY to this day.
I'd be more than willing to submit this line with documentation to the CFA if they
are interested in having it.
