I have been trying to find Haines CHAPMAN in the 1820 census and could not find him. I
finally located him by following a hunch. On the 1820 index there was an Aris CHAPMAN
listed in Genesee Co., NY, which is where I believed Haines to be. I don't know where
the indexers got the name Aris, because it is very plainly Hains. So, if anybody else has
been looking for him, here's the information:
1820 Census
Middlebury Twp., Genesee Co., New York
Page 174
Hains CHAPMAN 1 male under age 10
1 male age 26-45
2 females under age 10
1 female age 26-45.
I belive the boy is Orvis Alverson CHAPMAN. I received new information today that tells
me that I have finally found the long lost parents of Orvis - whom I have searched for
fruitlessly for almost 30 years. According to this information, his parents are Haines
CHAPMAN and Polly HUGGINS. In addition to Orvis, there were three girls - Agnes Iverson,
Oliva Emeline and Betsey Lovina. I also believe that Orvis and Agnes were twins.
Is there anybody on the list who is descended from any of these girls or knows anything
about them? There are only two of them enumerated on the 1820 census. Betsey married
David E. Lord but I don't know about the other two.
Haines 2nd wife was Anna Seekins. They had 8 children - five girls and three boys. Does
any of this ring a bell with anybody?
