Before I re-invent the wheel, is the a central location of where all the Chapman's
that were part of the Cherokee land lottery in Georgia originated from?
My earliest Chapman patriarch can be traced back to George in 1849 but always gave his
state of birth as Connecticut. He died during the Civil War so no verbal history has
survived as to his origins.
I've exhausted most other research ... heck, I even tried to research the 1850 and
1860 index where they were living for people living in their county but originating from
CT and that didn't pan out.
Since, to me, it seems unusual for a young man from CT to just appear in GA I began
looking for reasons why. The Cherokee land lottery is as likely as anything else,
thinking perhaps his father, brother, uncle, cousin, etc. may have brought some family to
GA.
So, I am trying to find out if any of the Chapman's in the Cherokee land lottery
were originally from CT and were there around 1826/1828 which is when our patriarch claims
as a birth year/state.
Thanks for any help and/or suggestions you offer.
