Ok. I'm going to have to ask that any and ALL virus related information
NOT be posted to the list by anyone but me. This is going to confuse
people even more. Yes. There ARE patches for certain versions of
antivirus software......certain brands. BUT........you need to know what
you are doing......and in some (not all) cases, these patches are NOT
necessary.
This W32.badtrans.b@mm virus/worm that has been making the rounds, and the
one that I posted the warning about is NOT one of the viruses that there is
a patch for. Why? Because it isn't the type that DOES need it. It is
easily removed from any system by following the procedure that I outlined,
and that was taken from the Symantec site. If someone gets a patch and
installs it and uses it for this virus, it's NOT necessary......and I'm not
sure what the outcome would be.....I just spoke with my Tech Advisor, and
he confirmed this for me. This virus/worm W32.badtrans.b@mm does NOT need
a patch. Let's not make this any harder or worse than it is. I was
infected Sunday eve with the virus, and sucessfully removed it without any
problems.
If I can do it so can anyone else. I haven't used a patch......just my AV
program, updated, and scanned my system per the instructions on the
Symantec site that I gave the address for earlier.
If the virus/worm needs a patch, it will be in the instructions of the
address that I have provided.

In the San Francisco Chronicle a couple days ago it advised those with
a
high-risk for virus to go into
www.microsoft.com/technet\/security/bulletin/MS01-020.asp and download a
software patch. I did not find that, but there is lots of information
available. I wrote virus for information, and got some information where I
could sign up for this protection, but it will take 3 - 6 weeks to get. It
is free.
