Hello List,
I'm researching David T. Chapman who married Mary Groomer, at Clay Co. MO, on
10/22/1837. Appears in Census Indexes (Indices?) for Missouri, for 1840 (Gallatin, Daviess
Co.), 1850 ( 27th District, Daviess Co.), 1860 & 1870 ( Benton, Daviess Co.). I would
like to confirm (or find otherwise) that David T. was born in Virginia and if so, his
parents residence, his siblings and his antecedents.
His son, John David Chapman was born in MO in 1847/48, married Josephine Morris on
01/13/1867 at Daviess Co., MO. and they had 5 children, one of whom was my grandfather,
Dudley Edward Chapman. Dudley was a Spanish American War veteran who served with the 22nd
Kansas Volunteer Infantry along with his older brother, George Washington Chapman. Dudley
died at McKinney, Texas in 1952, age 72.
Dudley's father, John David was remarried to Emma............(maiden name unknown) and
they had a son called ELDON who may well have been born in Kansas. Emma was still alive in
1926 when she applied for a military widows pension- John David Chapman served in the 43rd
Missouri Infantry, probably during the Civil War. I calculate that Eldon Chapman was born
between 1900 and 1910 and he may have served in the Army Air Corps (USAAF) during WW2.
Specifically, would like to know more about Emma & Eldon.
Anything that anyone can tell me about these VA/MO/KS/TX Chapmans gratefully received.
Barry Chapman
