Molly,
We've puzzled about connections years ago because of names in common. You
mentioned your gggrandfather Ezekiel Chapman possibly a Van Horn wife in
Onondaga County, with twin sons Clinton and Cortland (do you suppose they
were named for the counties, if they were - too lazy to get up to see when
those counties were formed -vbg).
My gggrandfather's grandson (collateral line from mine), Randall Chapman
moved to Michigan after the Civil War and his elder son John married a
Hannah Van Horn in Macomb, Michigan. When I was researching that line, I
came across a lot of Van Horns. Might there be a clue there for you??

Dear Molly and Jean,
I too have contacted both of you concerning the Onondaga County Chapmans. My
2nd greatfather was John R. Chapman b. 1809 NY d. 187? of
Fayetteville/Manlius. His wife Sophronia Huntley had a brother Lyman Huntley that married
Louisa
M. Chapman she the daughter of Moses Chapman b.1790 CT of DeWitt NY.
Canastota and Kirksville just over the line in Madison County are mentioned
along with this line.
The Onondaga website mentioned "the Chapman Estate" do you know of this
estate? Some other early surnames connected to my Chapman line are: Eaton, Huntley,
Cady, Furbeck, Morey, Luddington. The Eaton, Huntley and Cady names are early
day CT. families.
I know the Chapman name is common but am wondering if our Chapmans came
together from CT to Onondaga County because of the time frame.
John R. Chapman had three children:
1. Celestia A. b. abt. 1835 married Leonard Furbeck she died in New Jersey
2. Adelbert* b. 1844 m. Sarah Morey in NY, 2 wives in CT, NY Waite Eaton
Luddington he died 1931 NY.
3. Eugene b. abt. 1847 last seen in the 1870 Manlius census living with
parents.
There was another Celestia Chapman d/o of Farnham Chapman of Marcellus, NY.
Would appreciate any input you might have!
