In a message I know that the BALDWIn family That married my Chapman family(
major lines) have BAKERs( Baldwin from Benton Co. Missouri! and there is a
CHAPMAN family there that I haven't managed to link to mine) The BAKER is
listed on the 1920 Wann, Nowata County, OK census with my grandfather William
E. BALDWIN as a son in law but I don't know who he was married to. this is
before my Baldwin grandmother married my Chapman grandfather.
On the CHAPMAN- MCGEE side:
Rutha MCGEE on 1850 census white county emumerated in household of (Andrew)
Jackson CHAPMAN and wife Jane.
White county marriage records show Ruth McGee married Nicholas HUFF 31 Dec
1857
LDS family group sheet submitted by Vernie E. HUFF of Alberta CanadaLists
three children of which only one could possibly be Ruth MCGEEs'
Catherine Huff br. 1852 Indian creek Twp. White Co. ILL
Joseph Huff br. 1855 " "
Wilson Huff br. 1859 " "
I also have listed a William Hiram HUFF who married #2 wife on 28 March 1889
Sara SHONE @ Stoddard, MO . He died Nov 4 1899 @ Bloomfield,Stoddard, MO. I
believe this is a step child of Rutha MCGEE....(I don't have a birth date for
him.
Ruth MCGEE was one of three wives of Nicholas Huff and she doed 29 Dec 1887
per Carmi Courier Newspaper.
There are a large number of CHAPMAN in White County of which are related or
decended from Samuel CHAPMAN my ancestor. It might be possible that your
CHAPMAN/BAKER may be one of mine but I have many holes in my research.
I have hoped to go to ILL to do some checking but haven't been able. I have
had to rely on other decendeds to give me information.
There is a well documented group of Chapmans in Johnson Co. ILL also, and
they have most of the same names as ours, but I haven't found that they are
connected to mine.
If you look at the ILL marriage database you might find some marriage
information to assisst you. I have managed to trace the various families
connected to the CHAPMAN lines in White Co. ILL this way. I have found a
lot of crosss marriages, one generation marrying into one family and a
generation or two later marrying back into the same lines. Makes for much
confusion. But these people where marrying people they knew or were related
to for the most part. They were also Primitive Baptists @ Lick Creek Baptist
Church in White Co. IL( It is on line)
What are some of the surnames linked to the CHAPMAN/ BAKER line you have????
I hope this helps?

<< Janey, I am curious too. What was the name of the stepson, or the name of
your gggrandfather's wife's sister living in Stoddard County?
My gfather may have been a stepson of a CHAPMAN, and he (and his family?)
migrated from southern Illinois to Stoddard County around 1900. He died in
Dexter, Stoddard CO, MO in 1967. His name was Samuel BAKER. >>
