More Williams! :)
I haven'thad a chance to trace these people yet past this
moment...mopre
pressing stuff!
but they could have gone to OHIO....?
Who they? My GGrandfather was born in OH.... His grandfather..William
Chapman (don't know of a middle name) migrated from WVA.
or Ark like my ancestors did. and we
have more Williams that one would thhink possible. My Uncle Bill( William
has about 4 or 5 sons names William Jr.(stupid!!!!!) each with different
wife.
Heaven help ya!
It's kind of funny.....for years I've wondered what the "W" stood for in
Elisha's name.
Asked mom, and she didn't know......and of course grandma had long since
passed away.
This "cousin" I heard from in OH that is direct decendent from the aunt
Mary that raised Elisha told me about the grandfather's name.......
It all fits. William Chapman had a bunch of kids (including Mary
McPeak.......died, and his wife Elizabeth remarried. We don't know why,
but she gave the remaining children that were still home to Mary to
raise. Whether she just didn't want them,or whether her new husband
refused to raise them, has gone to the grave with them.
At any rate, William and Elizabeth had a son they called William, Jr. Still
no known middle name......BUT......Elisha, who is the son of ONE of the
brothers of Mary (Mary and her husband Phillip never had any children of
their own, which is probably one of the reasons she was "lucky" enough to
inherit all her brothers to raise) ...Elisha's middle name is William.
Elisha's oldest child, my grandmother, was named Mary....we assume after
Mary Chapman McPeak. My grandmother was never called "Mary". Her folks
called her "Duck"...one wanted to call her Mary, and the other wanted to
call her Alice which was her middle name. I'm assuming that it was Elisha
that didn't want to call her Mary, because of the aunt. Like I
said........it fits. Anyway.......that's MUCHO more than I had even a year
ago.
But all this similarity on the list with names and surnames just struck me
odd. Especially since there doesn't *seem* to be any connections!

My GGrandfather was raised by an aunt from the time he was 9 years old.....
Keep in mind that this was in OH.........
Anyhow.......the name of the aunt?
Mary MC PEAK!
His sister was also raised by this aunt.....her name was Jane. Well,
actually it was Clarissa Jane, but she was called Jane.
(sigh) I KNOW that my GGgrandfather (Elisha William Chapman) had a
grandfather named William Chapman. But STILL don't know who Elisha's
father was! There WAS a William, Jr. that was a child of William's, but
WAS he the father of Elisha? We can't find anythng!
I'm much further than even a year ago, but this puzzle has been terribly
frustrating!
