Hello. I recently joined your ranks with this specific issue in mind. I'm
hoping there's some ideas out there.
It's well established that Edward Chapman of Windsor m. Elizabeth Fox,
daughter of Margaret Clark, sometime around 1660 in England. I found the
following in the IGI and was wondering if anyone had any comment (all are
extracted records unless noted otherwise).
* Edward Chapman m. Elizabeth Fox 24 JUN 1662 Market Harborough,
Leicester, England. This is very close to when Edward appears in Windsor,
but they could have left that summer, been in New England by early fall, in
time for Elizabeth to get pregnant (with Henry b. Jul 1663) and Edward to
incur debts before being sued in March.
* Elizabeth Foxe chr 23 AUG 1635 Lubenham, Leicester, England F-William
M-Margaret (only Elizabeth Fox b. to mother Margaret in Leicester, including
LDS member-submitted records)
* Margaret Clark m. William Foxe 01 DEC 1632 Saddington, Leicester, England.
The above birth for Elizabeth and her sister Mary are the only Leicester
births to a William and Mary. Saddington and Lubenham are about 3 miles
apart. Lubenham is 3 miles from Market Harbrough.
* IGI submission Margaret Clark chr 8 MAR 1598 Saddington F-Symon, sibs
Henrie, Judith. Unfortunately not extracted, but the spellings/exact dates
suggest whoever submitted it wasn't just guessing. Note the brother Henry
and the father Simon (names of Margaret of Windsor's brother and Elizabeth's
two sons)
Edwards are harder to find, but there are two possibilities in Leicester:
- chr 27 MAY 1632 Skeffington, Leicester, England F-Henry
[Siblings Marie, William, John. An IGI entry has marriages for those names
all in Bringhurst. No theories or extractions on any Henry marriage.],
- chr 24 MAY 1634 St Mary, Leicester, Leicester, England F-Edward M-Joane
(Branson) (Edward and Joane m. 04 MAY 1628. Kids Elizabeth, Edward, Edward);
Skeffington is 10-15 mi north of Market Harborough. Leicester is 10 mi
northwest.
Wills would be wonderful, but I'm not in a position to get them unless
they're magically online somewhere. No one has posted any information about
these families on WorldConnect, used them in Anc. File, written about them
on their website or in the NEHGR. That's a bit odd, unless I just happened
to find records recently digitized. It all makes me a bit wary, so I'm
hoping someone has some ideas to corroborate or disprove any of the above.
Thanks for your help.
