Rupert and Barry,
There was a Moses from the New England lines that was in the VA area for a
while. I remember see this in my research. But do not remember when and
what age he might have been, it has been too long ago.

Rupert,
Despite having a RAOGK volunteer do some follow up for me locally in
Halifax
Co, VA(where Joseph Chapman married in 1811 and Moses Chapman married
Sally
Tuck in 1789) no further trace of either Chapman was apparent there.
I've
done some online work on earlier Virginia censuses & there is no sign of a
Moses Chapman in or around Halifax Co, VA.
Given that Halifax Co VA adjoins/adjoined N.Carolina/Virginia state
line..........I'm sure my thinking is apparent to you! Are you able to/do
you have contacts with anyone who might research Chapmans living in
N.Carolina counties bordering Halifax Co/Pittsylvania Co VA? Possible
findings might dent or demolish both yours & my Chapman brickwalls!
Living in Tasmania, Australia, I regret I can't offer much practical help
with the research on location - by necessity, my work is done primarily
from
online sources.
Cheers,
Barry.
