Hi all;
This is my first post to this list, although I've been reading your traffic for a
couple of weeks now. I'm just getting started on the family research. I'm
looking for other related Chapmans in California who (if any) are doing our
geneology. Here's my story:
In 1903 my ggf/ggm with their family moved from Birmingham, England (Norton's Cross)
to Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. My ggf (born 1874) and 3 of his sons joined the Canadian
Expeditionary Force to fight in WWI. The sons being Thomas Rupert
Till (born 1892), Joseph Thomas Till (born 1890) and Richard Henry (1895). Richard Henry
died of his wounds in 1918. My ggf and his sons survived with Thomas Rupert becoming my
gf. After the war around 1925 the family moved to California
settling in and around Los Angeles. My grandfather returned to Canada shortly after with
Joseph Thomas where they both married had a family. The only surviving Chapmans in Canada
are the descendents of Thomas Rupert. The family in
California in 1930 are Joseph Chapman (1874) his wife Fannie Mary, 2 daughters (Margaret
(later Harris) and Kathleen) and one son George. My father Joseph Thomas Till (1932) has
pretty good tabs on most of the American cousins, but when we
stretch it back to England we run into some snags. I'm hoping that someone out there
is somehow related to me and is possible doing some geneology to help me fill in the gaps!
I've got one of my grandmother's (a Wall from Birmingham)
half-brothers great-grandaughter working on that half, but the Chapman half seems to be
eluding me. I've written to several parishes to check out marriage dates. No word
yet.
If anyone can help I'd appreciate it.
