Does anyone have any info on the CHAPMANS who lived in Lawrence County,Indiana in the
early and mid 1800's? I think there were 2 differant families there. My AQUILLA
CHAPMAN and his father JAMES and his brother JAMES lived in Bedford area. There was
another family who lived in Spice Valley Township. I sure would like some help on these
people. AQUILLA was born 1801 in Kentucky, but where? AQUILLA was married to JESTON
FREELOVE WARREN in 1828 at Clark County,In.
I have a copy of grantees and persons elgible under JOHN SAVAGE GRANT. This was dated 23
December 1772. GEORGE WASHINGTON informed Mr. Rind of the Stauton Gazette of those who
would receive lands under the JOHN SAVAGE grant on 15 December 1772. WILLIAM CRAWFORD is
appointed surveyor. One of the grantees was Pvt. NATHAN CHAPMAN. Does antone know where
this land grant was located? Is there a list of those who sold their grants?
Another partial list of those who received lands in Big Sandy,Kanawha and on Ohio Rivers
under the JOHN SAVAGE grant of December 15,1772- Augusta County records. One name is
NATHANIEL CHAPMAN. Does anyone have anything on these grantees? The names NATHAN &
NATHANIEL run in my CHAPMAN line. These men were possibly soldiers in the French &
Indian War or else in King Phillip's war.
All help will be appreciated. Thank You, Clyde
