Please tell me where William Chapman Jr. stayed in Ky.
Thanks, Babsy
As far as I know William, Jr. stayed in Fleming County, KY. He is listed in
the censuses from 1810 to 1840. He was born in 1774 and died in 1847. He is
buried in Fleming Co, KY in the same cemetery as his father, mother, wife and
son Noah. He married in 1804 Naomi Browning - children Albert B., Noah,
Cynthia, William and Basil.
As far as I know he never left Fleming County, however I don't really know
for sure. Noah (b. 1806 d. 1859), Basil (b. 1817 d. 1842) and Cynthia (b.
1810 d. 1871) all died in Fleming County, KY and are buried there. William
III apparently went to Texas (can find nothing on him). Albert lived in
Indiana (Vigo Co) but is buried in Fleming Co.
William Chapman, Sr. in his will stated that his land was in dispute. In the
1830's through the 1840's apparently the land dispute was settled and
William, Jr. attempted to get clear title to the land. In the court records
it mentions most of William Jr.'s siblings as deceased or location unknown.
As far as I can tell from the records in 1854, William III sells to Albert
his share of the land their father (Jr) inherited from his father (Sr). And
in 1856, Albert and Cynthia sell the land. Albert leaves his estate to his
sister Cynthia and Cynthia leaves everything to a friend. As you can see I
really don't have a good idea of where William, Jr was, except that the land
was in Fleming County.
I did find a marriage record for William Chapman and Sally Walston in Lewis
County, KY in 1807. I haven't looked any further into this William Chapman.
Hope this helps.
