The Dna Being tested is ONLY passed from father to son. Tjis just by
coincidence means that tracing ONE line of a family is possible, but not
100% reliable.
There is a Mitachondrial test as well but since females usually
chhange surnmes ever generation it is not useful for genealogy (except
in a VERY general way- see the data published about the 12 Eves).
IF you participate I recommend spending the extra money for the 25 arkr
tests, he 12 marrjker is TOO GENERAL, and unless you have the same
surname as your match, ulikely to provide useable resul;ts, upgrading
to the 25 mrker from the twelve marker costs MORE in total than just
doing the 25 FIRST, and you will be three times more likely to have a
valid match.
I don't want to sound stupid but, how does this DNA thing work? Is it only
for guys to get tested? My Chapman line started with William Chapman in New
London. My most recent Chapman connection was my 2nd great-grandmother, Abagail
Chapman, born abt. 1862, a daughter of Eliphalet H. Chapman and Antoinette
Therese Isbell. Eliphalet was a son of Elijah Chapman and Martha Woodworth. Elijah
was a son of Gideon Chapman and Sarah Chapman. Sarah was a daughter of Ichabod
Chapman and Anna Jones. Ichabod was a son of Ichabod and Abigail Clothier.
Ichabod was a son of John Chapman and Sarah ?. John was a son of William B.
Chapman and Sarah Lidia. William Chapman was my 9th great-grandfather.
I was just curious about the DNA project and how it works.
