Please excuse the "off topic" post!
As many of this list know, I've have done my best to provide what
information I have on the Chapman's of the William Chapman of New London, Ct
line to any Chapman that may have an interest. I have done so via this ID
and my main ID, johnjay(a)nycap.rr.com and my web site at
http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~johnjay
Unfortunately, at this point in time I must unsubscribe to the chapman email
list. It has nothing to do with any any events that have occurred on this
list. But rather because of of our # 2 son Carl!
Both my wife (Jean) and I are very proud of our #2 son, Carl. He has always
followed a different drummer; and as such has made our life very
interesting. As a result, about 4 years ago, faced with the difficulty of
locating employment with a police department after graduating from college
with a degree in criminal justice, he decided to enlist in the US Army, with
a MOS of "military intelligence".
For the last couple of years he has been stationed at Ft. Irwin, CA. This
is where all our troops, reserves and allies come for combat training. Until
recently we were hoping he would be safe from the current conflict, but
realizing that when the time comes, there may be a time in which our
government decides that it is time not to train, but to take the trainers.
This evening we have just learned that that this time has come!!! Our son
has been informed that next Friday he is to report to Louisiana where he
will meet up with others in the US Army and then be deployed overseas. At
this point in time he does not know if he will be going to Iraq,
Afghanistan, or possibility Korea!
As a result, and I hope you understand, genealogy is no longer my prime
interest. Therefore, I will be unsubscribing to this list as soon as I post
this message. Should anyone have need of my assistance on the William of
New London, Ct line, I can be contacted at johnjay(a)nycap.rr.com. However,
please understand that I may not reply immediately. I now have other
priorities. The first of which is to try and get to Califronia to see our
son before he is deployed!!!!!!!!
I do ask all of you, no matter what your opinions on this "war" may be, for
your prayers for our son, and ALL others serving our country, that they be
returned home as soon as possible safe and sound!! This is going to be a
very difficult time for both myself and my wife; however, I do not ask your
prayers for us, but for our son; that he may return safely to his wife whom
he married less than 1 year ago.
It is interesting to note that in tracing our line back to William Chapman
of New London, Ct in 1636; in our particular branch, our son, as far as we
can tell, will be the first Chapman to serve in conflict for the USA. I
am a "child" of the Viet Nahm "war" but was "fortunate" in
the fact that I
did not have to face military service. But it looks like our son Carl will
be the first.
Therefore, I ask for your prayers and support for him and all other service
personnel serving our country. Please remember that no matter how you feel
about this conflict, our service personnel did not ask for it. They are
doing their "jobs". They did not ask for this conflict, but are doing what
is expected of them. Regardless of our views on this conflict, our service
personnel deserve our prayers and our support.
To all Chapmans, until such time as our son, hopefully, returns safe to the
arms of his wife, and our family, I say good bye! Hopefully it will be a
short period of time before I can rejoin this list.
May God be with you all, and I wish you good luck in your research, and
Happy Hunting!
John Chapman
