MOST WANTED - Mystery Grandpa
Here is my online tree
http://awt.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&db=:1499909&id=I66...
He first shows up on the record 1878 as a student at Western Reserve Academy at
Hudson, Summit County, Ohio. Student roster showed him living at "Mr.
Chapman's" - students then lived in private homes and boarding houses.
The only Mr. Chapman was John L. Chapman, son of John Chapman who was a British
conscript on a flagship War of 1812-14. That John elected to stay in OH when
released from Chilicothe prison. Actually, that latter John had 4 sons, not
just the one. Here is his online tree as I've constructed it from censuses &c.

Grandpa never told any of his 3 wives exactly who his parents were as best
anyone can tell, other than 1) stating that his name was John, and 2) it is
known that he took wife #3 (my grandmother) to the cemetery and showed her John
L's plot. We have NO earthly idea who his mother was.
I am speculating that grandpa was an illegitimate child by woman-unknown,
because right at the time grandpa appeared living with "Mr. Chapman", John L
and wife divorced, per the 1880 US census. It suggests that Allan's mother had
perhaps died or otherwise relinquished his care to the man who is probably his
father. It's a sure thing that a 14 year old boy had someone that could afford
to buy his books and pay tuition at the #1 school for several states around.
So. I would really really like to find descendants of John L's offspring,
particuarly his son John L (jr) or jr's known son Earl b. 1906 who may not have
survived - he was with parents at age 14 on 1920 census but not found on 1930.
I may have to go to John L's brothers' lines.
Why? Because I would like to identify a current living descendant and possibly
beg plead or otherwise obtain a DNA sample for comparison with my brothers'.
Another thing known about Allan B Chapman is that his blood type was AB.
Thanks for bearing with me on this longish short-of-it query.
