I have this information in my family tree but he apparently is not your
James as he died in 1824. This James was in Robertson Co., TN where my
John Chapman, son of Benjamin was born in 1806. Could be a cousin.
This James father was Daniel and his mother Charity House. His siblings
were in order of birth: Mary, Unknown, John, Lyda, Rebecca, (James),
Giles, DanielJr, Thomas, Nancy, and Sally Chapman. I show James born
about 1796 and died at the early age of 28 in 1824.
I copied the following while in Nashville, several years ago.
"James Chapman
Died in 1824 and in a will dated 4 Sep 1824 left beloved brother, Giles,
a 65 acre tract of land, Browns? Fork, Cain Creek. Daniel Chapman was
one of the witnesses to the will. No wife or children are listed in the
will, just Giles. Ref: microfilm, TN State Library. Vol 3 from Robertson
Co. will book. "
If you find your James was in Robertson County, TN maybe the above will
give you a clue that will help. Hope so.
I would appreciate any information on the ancestors or decedents of
Benjamin Chapman. I suspect Benjamin's father is Silas Chapman but have
no actual proof yet.
I descend from John Chapman a son of Benjamin. John was born in
Robertson County, TN, April
9, 1806 and died November 28, 1874 in Mayfield, Graves County, KY,
at 68 years of age. His body was interred November 30, 1874 in
Mayfield, Graves County, KY., Liberty Cemetary.
He married Annie Traughber in KY., 1824. Annie was born in Logan
County, KY. September 19, 1808. Annie died 1887 in Logan County, KY.,
at
78 years of age. Her body was interred 1887 in Logan County, KY. John
was born in Robertson County, TN in 1808 and moved to Logan County,
KY. when he was about 10 years old. He married Anna Traughber and they
had 9 children. His son Harvey was born in 1828 in Logan County, KY.
They then moved to a farm north of Mayfield in Graves County KY. in
1855. John died in 1874 and Anna in 1887. Both are buried in the
Liberty Baptist Cemetery which is near the farm they owned.
The oldest relative I have found in the Chapman family tree thus far is
Michael
Dorebach who was born in Germany about 1715. He and two sons came to
America on the ship "Patience" in 1751. The family then changed their
name from Dorebach to Traughber. Michael had a son, William II whose
son William III was the father of Anna.
John Chapman and Annie Traughber had the following children:
Alfred Chapman was born June 25, 1825.
Harvey Chapman was born February 18, 1828.
Mary Ann Chapman was born in Mayfield, Graves Co, KY. 1833.
Mary died February 3, 1886 at 52 years of age. Steven Chapman was born in
Overton Co., TN. 1836.
Steven Chapman was born in Overton Co., TN. 1836.
Amanda Chapman was born in Overton Co., TN. 1840. She married Adams.
Jane Chapman was born in Overton Co., TN. 1842.
James Calvin Chapman was born April 21, 1844.
Angeline "Linnie" Chapman was born in Robertson Co, TN.February 5, 1847.
Angeline died January 8, 1929 at 81 years of age.
She married Joe Croley in KY., 1861.
John Chapman was born in Robertson Co, TN. 1849. He married
Georgia Ann Murphey 1876.
By August of 1892 Harvey and family were in Ellis County, TX. My
grandfather was Robert Edward Chapman, son of Harvey.

Hi,
I'm new here - again - and would like to submit a query.
Seeking information on the parents and ancestry of James Chapman
who was b. about 1808 in TN. He married a lady named Mildred b.
about 1804 in KY. They had at least six children with five b. in IA
and one in TX: John 1828 IA, William D. 1832 IA, James M. 1834 IA,
Martha 1838 IA, Mary E. 1840 IA, and Mandy 1848 TX. When they were
enumerated in 1850 Dallas Co., TX the family also included a
Katherine Chapman 16 IL, who is thought to be the wife of John.
James apparently died before 1860 when Mildred was enumerated in
Dallas Co. as the head of the family. John and Katherine were still
with the family in 1860 and there were three new children in the
household, thought to be their children: Mary 9, Lucinda 6 and
George 3.
