Subject: Looking for my great grandfather, William Chapman
My Grandmother was Effie Cleo Chapman, the daughter of William Chapman and
Clara Belle Young. She was born in 1897 in Summitville, Madison County,
Indiana, one of two children born to William & Clara. The other was Eldon
Chapman.
I've never been able to find any record of a marriage for William &
Clara. Nor have I found anything at all about him. He disappeared prior to
the 1900 census. In 1899, Clara married Sidney McFarland. No divorce on
file, that I could find, either.
The only thing I know about William is that he was a grocer in Summitville
in the 1890's. He disappeared from this family around 1898 and as far as I
ve been able to discover, was never seen again.
Shortly after 1900, Clara and her new husband moved to Franklin County, IN.
Effie & Eldon stayed with their grandparents (Young) in Summitville.
Eventually, Eldon moved to Franklin County with his mother and took her
maiden name of Young. He lived with his uncle, Berley Young, until grown.
Effie stayed with her grandparents, until her marriage in 1916 in Anderson.
Anything on William would be appreciated.
Donna (Clem) Arthur
