Peggy, hi, I too have been looking for James Chapman in Ohio for about 18
years now<G> Mine was in Ross, then it turned into Jackson Co, and he
helped lay out the town of Jackson. Married Rebecca Radcliff somewhere
before 1820 and had children. They moved to Ross Co by the 1850 census and
several daughters and son William had married before the rest of the family
moved to Macon Co. IL in 1851. They were farmers and there is a nice trail
leading from that date forward but nothing I can find before the 1820
census. IN the Jackson History there is a bit about him doing the stakes
for the town.
I have info of his children, and a lot of their children, would
appreciate any info on where he came from before that. His census in Macon
Co. of 1860 says he was born NC. His son's census says father was born TN
so maybe Watuga area??? Still searching.
Could your James be the one in Scioto married to Phobe and a RvWar --lots
of info out there on him.
