Subject: [CHAPMAN-L] Henry Chapman
HENRY CHAPMAN BORN 1616 ENGLAND, compiled by E. Frank Melton and
Brenda
Kelly Melton. The majority of this work traces the descendants of Henry
Chapman (born 1756 in Northampton County, NC, died 1822 in Darlington
District, SC). He was the great great grandson of the immigrant, Henry
Chapman (born 1616 in England, died date unknown, in Virginia). Chapman's
will, written in 1812 and proved in 1822, lists his second wife Sarah
(Gee) and eight children: Wiley, Rhoda, Allen, Henry, Charles, William,
Abner, and Ambrose. Two additional children, Sara and Frances are not
mentioned in their father's will. Of these ten children, the authors note
that only two children remained in Darlington County until their deaths,
Wiley (1785 - 1851) and Charles (1798 - 1865). To the authors' credit,
several wills, military records, and census records are transcribed for
the reader's benefit. © 2003, Library of Congress Number- 2003106408,
