I haven't had much luck checking the records (I would assume the newspapers
also, but I haven't checked) for Mingo County. The courthouse is Williamson
and over the years it has flooded probably dozens of times. The records they
grab, when they have enough time is the land records. That is one reason it
is so difficult to obtain any information in Mingo County. That and I don't
get down to WV very often, I live in northern OH.
Thank you for the thought though.
Jerry Lester might have put me on the right track. He sent me info on a
Joseph and I had him in my data, a cousin of Jennie, he was born in 1868
probably a good time frame as he was much older that Jennie. I never thought
of him, he lived in Lawrence County, KY. He was married and that might have
been the reason dad never saw his father. There isn't any proof that this is
the Joseph that Jennie had an affair with though. It would be great if one
of his decedents had the DNA test done that way I could find out for sure.
Unfortunately I don't have much on his descendents, just his children and
some of who they married.
This does give me a thread to follow to see if I do connect with this
Joseph.

If you think the Chapman was in town on a visit , I would read the
local
newspaper for the date around the time of conception. Most local papers
ran a column of visitors in town for social events listing who they were
there to see and their home town. Sometimes it will list how long they
were
in town.
