Barbara, I am very interested in the Strother name since is appears so
regularly in my direct line. There could have been an early connection to
the Strother family -- such a Strother wife -- that may make it hard to
find. At the time of the Revolutionary War, related men commonly served in
the same units as family so that they could look after each other, so the
Strother man could have been a brother-in-law or cousin of the Chapman men.
Who knows? Let me know what you find out and I'll do the same. Good luck!
Mike Chapman

Mike,
The Chapman's are on my side not my husband's (Milt). Sorry for the
confusion. I will check out the information you sent me. This is the
closest information that I have ever received that may be a clue for me.
Thanks so very, very, very much. I hope we find a connection. I do know
that my grandmother Grace Chapman's husband's family (Childs) or the Tusing
s lived next door to a Strother family in VA.

Milt, you may have a tie to my Chapman line out of James and Jane Chapman of
Orange and Frederick Co., VA (circa 1785). My Chapman line contain numerous
Strother names used as given names. Most members of the family moved west
into Kentucky onto bounty land granted for military service. The only
connection I have found to the Strother family are Revolutionary War service
records showing that Thomas Chapman and his brothers perhaps served in the
same unit as a Strother man. One of James Chapman's sons was William
Chapman (living 1835 Sangamon Co., IL) who also was a Revolutionary War
soldier. William married Fanny Rust in Frederick Co., VA had two sons and
two daughters. One of the sons of William Chapman and Fanny Rust was named
William, but I don't have a marriage for him. This is about the right time
and place to be your William Chapman who married Margaret. My direct line
is out of James Chapman's son Thomas Chapman who served in a unit with a
Strother man and named his oldest son John Strother Chapman (my direct
line). Hope this helps.

Maria,
Berryville, Clarke Co., VA he was
probably born somewhere near there. The rest of my Chapman clan was born in
Wadesville, VA, Frederick Co., VA. Some traveled to Summit Point, WV.
The name Strother shows up as a middle name and I know there were several
Strother's in that area. I can't seem to find a connection. I am Stuck in
the 1850's. Here is what I have:
William Chapman born in Frederick Co., VA and died in Wadesville, VA married
Margaret Manuel? (not sure about that last name). She was born somewhere in
VA.
