Ok........here it is. For the Digest mode, it's basically the same, except
that you place the "D" in where the "L" is instead....except for the
list
admin contact after my name at the end. It must be written as is for me to
receive it. :) Basic guidelines are the same for both list versions.
Please SAVE this! I will be changing it in a couple weeks or so.........but
for now this is it.
I'll send the change to the list also.
Thanks!

** PLEASE READ AND SAVE THIS MESSAGE FOR FUTURE REFERENCE **
Welcome to the CHAPMAN mailing list! The purpose of the list is for the
discussion and sharing of information regarding the CHAPMAN surname and
variations in any place and at any time.
You are currently subscribed in "mail mode", which means that you will
receive every posting made to the CHAPMAN list as a separate e-mail. The
directions on how to change to digest mode are given below. Please
remember to turn off any signature element before proceding.
1. How to unsubscribe. Send a message to
CHAPMAN-L-request(a)rootsweb.com
that contains (in the body of the message) the command
unsubscribe
and no additional text.
2. How to subscribe. Whatever you just did worked, or you'd not be getting
this message. But for future reference (for instance, if your subscription
is cancelled for whatever reason and you want to resubscribe), just send
the command
subscribe
and no other text [in the body of the message) to
CHAPMAN-L-request(a)rootsweb.com.
3. How to change to digest mode (several postings are combined and sent to
you together as a single large message). There are two steps. First, send
the command "unsubscribe" to CHAPMAN-L-request(a)rootsweb.com to discontinue
mail mode. Second, send the command "subscribe" to
CHAPMAN-D-request(a)rootsweb.com
to start receiving digests.
4. How to change to NOMAIL mode. There is no formal NOMAIL mode. All you
have to do is follow the directions above and unsubscribe when you want the
messages to stop, and then when you want them to start again, simply
subscribe again.
5. If you'd like to post a message so everyone on the mailing list receives
it, just send it to
CHAPMAN-L(a)rootsweb.com.
It will then be sent on to everyone in both mail and digest mode. You
don't need to send it explicitly to both.
For your verification, a transcript of the original subscription
request is included below.

*--*--*--*--*--*--* NOTES FROM THE LIST ADMIN *--*--*--*--*--*--*
If your mailbox gets full, or if your server has problems, you will be
dropped from the List automatically by the Rootsweb auto-responders after a
predetermined number of "bounces." Once the problem is cleared up, you can
subscribe again.
There are some guidelines here as with any email list. We may not always
agree with some things that are said, but please consider the other person
before replying to a post. Although I don't want to be a "drill sergeant",
I will ask that a few things be adhered to. While some of them may not
seem necessary, especially on a Surname list, I want to have my stand
regarding them understood. I want this to be a relaxed list, an enjoyable
list, but above all, I want it to be a helpful list for everyone. The
following guidelines will be strictly enforced:
Cursing and foul language will NOT be tolerated. Violators will be given
one warning. After that, they will be removed from the list and not
allowed to rejoin.
Flaming will NOT be tolerated.
Sexual preference will not be discussed here.
Debating one's belief in the area of religion will not be discussed here.
As a subscriber to the list, you understand it is my responsibility to step
in when a thread looks as though it may be going in a direction that could
be hurtful to others, or deviating too far from the general purpose of the
list, I will not hesitate to step in as needed. As listowner, I reserve
the right to remove anyone from the list at my discretion.
Be very selective in quoting messages in your replies. Quote only enough
so others can follow the thread, not the entire message. Please avoid "Me,
too," "Thank you" and similar posts. Please keep the subjects of
conversation confined to the purpose of this list...namely the discussion
and sharing of information regarding the CHAPMAN surname and variations in
any place and at any time. I will not be hard nosed about this, but I will
not allow the purpose of the list to deteriorate.
NO attachments of any kind are to be sent to the list If your email
program automatically generates attachments, be sure it is turned off. If
you have a document or other file of interest, have members request it and
then send it to their individual addresses rather than posting it to the
list. This includes the "V-Card" attachments as well.
Chain letters, 'virus warnings' and the like should not be posted to the
list. Please contact me first for verification of validity. Most are hoaxes
making it unnecessary to distribute messages of this nature. They also do a
bad number on the Rootsweb servers because of the volume generated.
SPAM will not be tolerated. No other warning on this will be
given. Violators will be removed from the list immediately, their ISP
notified, and the spam forwarded to abuse.
This includes advertising of any kind. If you have subscribed with the
idea of advertising whether it be deemed by you to be genealogical in
nature or not, contact the list admin FIRST. Otherwise you will be
immediately unsubbed without warning at the first such posting.
Remember to respect the copyright laws. If you wish to quote something
that is copyrighted, quote just a few words or lines, giving credit to the
author of the publication.
A few items of interest:
The Chapman-L has a companion web site which is located at:
http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~mari/chapman/
If you would like to be placed on the Researcher page, please contact
me. If you would like to be added to the Index, you will find a link to
Lewis Chapman who is taking care of that, on the web site.
If you will go to the List Archives, and search for your particular Chapman
you are looking for, you hopefully may find a connection from the previous
postings to the list. You should be able to glean an address from the
message to contact the person. The general archives are located at:

There are also the GenConnect Boards that are manned by me also for the
Chapman Surname. They are as follows:

application as it is a pdf file. There is a link on the site to access the
Adobe Site.
