Kathy,
You might want to check where people migrated from that came to Genesee Co
NY before 1860. People usually traveled in groups. Try migration pattern
websites or check at an LDS or genealogy library.
My William Chapman was born 1860 in RI, moved to Clarendon VT, then his son
Hiram Chapman b 1795 Clarendon, shows up 20 yrs later in No. Stockholm, St.
Lawrence Co., NY and I don't know what happened in between (or where
William and Ailee Williams Chapman died). Hiram's son Julius Chapman moved
from NY in 1867 to Kasota MN,
where my grandfather John H. Chapman was born and then they moved on to ND
and then his children moved to WA state.
Don't know if this is helpful Chapman migration info for you.
Good Luck,
Diana Chapman Owen
Diana:
Have you ever run into any Chapmans in Vermont with first names of Gerard
(or Jared), Orlando, or Chester? My Gerard was born arounf 1775 and
migrated north to Canada around 1800.
