This is Great News! New Doors, New Wood, New Paint!
Dear Friends,
Please pass this onto others. I have been told by many people that their
friends were nice enough to print the last email I sent out because they
don't have email. In fact I had some calls from historians who have called
me because they wanted me to snail mail them things I send out to others by
email.
I cannot express how many wonder things have happened in the last few weeks.
People have been writing me and calling me almost on a daily basis. More
history than I can begin to do justice to. This includes much of the history
prior to the Revolutionary War. I am planning on visiting many places,
including the Charleston SC, Columbia SC, and Savannah Georgia with a laptop
and scanner in hand to record much of this history to share with others.
As such I wanted to express my thanks and inform people where we may be at:
Hopefully we will find enough skilled and non skilled people to have a
shared weekend to fix up Bethel Church and the Chapman & Ruston Grounds.
I hope to find enough folks to help put new doors on the church, cover the
windows temporally with wood, and replace the majority of the missing wood
on the exterior of the church. We hope that beyond what we have raised to do
this we will have enough to begin painting the church to help protect it. We
also like to start doing some intense cleanup of the grounds connected to
the church, especially the older Chapman grounds.
We also like to find individuals, churches, and organizations that could
help with a project to do this work on a Saturday in October before I
weather turns significantly colder. Ideally the churches and families near
the church in SC could assist.
Please help us with this effort. Maybe I can visit your church,
organization, or similar to share what we are doing. Maybe your group can
come out and help us on one of our weekend efforts.
Please feel free to contact me about this effort. We need to raise about
$2000 more dollars in the coming month and we are very committed to finding
others who share in the desire to protect this piece of history.
There is a website being built about the church/grounds and you can visit it
and see pictures of the grounds at:
