Margie, it seems that you need to learn some basic research skills. Several
of the genealogy websites (
Ancestry.com,
familysearch.com,
genealogy.com)
offer beginner "classes" and helpful hints to show you how to start a
research project. There a also many books on the subject.
This is all information you should be able to garner from census records,
birth and death records, marriage records, etc. These are all records that
are available at any good sized library. Many are available online.
When you ask people to help you, you should have a location where they were
born, died or lived, so that people can more easily determine the identity
of your ancestors. The easier it is see and follow your line, the more
responses you will get. If you ask multiple questions about multiple people
you are less likely to get an answer. The only people who will answer you
are people who have the same line. What I mean by that is; they have the
same ancestor. It's like a needle in a haystack, so make the "needle" as
visible as you can. People also like to "trade" information. If you have
none, they are not as interested as if you had done some research yourself
and could offer them something of value. See if you can find a site that
will give you hints on posting a query.
Good luck

Subject: [CHAPMAN] Forwarded by list Mom
I'm new to these lists and trying very hard to connect my CHAPMAN
family
from
the Ridge Spring, Saluda County, South Carolina. Please excuse me if
you
receive this information from several lists. I do not have much
information on my
family, my farther never talked about his family and all my
grandparents,
aunts and uncles had died before I was born. So any help in connecting
this
information would be greatly appreciated.
