This William Chapman, "The Emigrant" is well documented. I, too, have
seen references to his parents, Nicholas Chapman and Elinor in England.
But when I've asked for documentary proof, there has been thundering
silence. The issue of WM & Sarah Lidia is learned from his last will and
testament dated 01 April 1669; he lived over thirty years after making
his will. It was probated 10 January 1699, recorded 10 Jan 1700.
I am 10th generation from William the Emigrant through his son Samuel
Chapman.

My Chapmans are from England and CT. I have seen data that says my
Chapmans
go back as far as the 1500's or so in England with an Alexander Chapman.
William Chapman and his wife Sarah Lidia, of the New London/Groton area
of the
state of CT are the fist mention of my Chapmans in CT. William is said
to have
died about 1699. I will list the rest of the line to make it easier to
see.
1. William Chapman and Sarah Lidia were my 9th grandparents
2. John Chapman and Sarah ? 8th great-grandparents
3. Ichabod Chapman and Abigail Clothier
4. Ichabod Chapman and Anna Jones
5. Sarah Chapman and Gideon Chapman (had the same great-grandfather)
6. Elijah Chapman and Martha Woodworth
7. Eliphalet Chapman and Antoinette Isbell
8. Abagail Chapman and Frank Holmes
another interesting mention.....the Isbell name is traced back to the
1000's
in England. My grandmother, Mildred Gregory, (passed away recently at
the
age of 96) was a daughter of Charles Gregory and Sara Elton. The Gregory
and
Elton names have also been traced back to England.
It is such a blessing to know who some of my ancestors are and to know a
little about their lives. God bless.
Rolande (Holmes) Gay
