Corey, Our family has a Jacob Chapman ancestor. We know neither of his
parents. He does say he was born near Staunton, VA about 1753. He does not
seem to be related to any of the other Chapmans on this list. I hope you
will keep posting.

Subject: [CHAPMAN] Anyone have a Strange - Chapman connection?
Hello everyone! Merry Christmas to each and every one of you. I
know
you're all probably very busy with holiday preparations, but I'm hoping
that
someone out there might be able to help me with some information. I
recently had my DNA tested by FamilyTreeDNA and interestingly enough, I
don't match to any other Chapmans, but I am (genetically speaking) a perfect
match (full 25 marker match with no genetic distance) to a family named
Strange. I contacted FTDNA about this to find out what might be the reason
for this match and they had two possible answers....either we're related
(1000 years back or so) or by some sheer twist of fate our set of 25 markers
has mutated over time to become identical. Their recommendation was to
upgrade to the 37 marker test and then see the results (which could place
our Most Recent Common Ancestor back as little as 5 generations!!!).
While I'm waiting for the test to be run though, I wanted to find out if
anyone
out there has any Chapman-Strange connections. The person from the
Strange family that was tested told me this "The Strange clan started out in
eastern VA, then migrated to Halifax County, VA and Carroll County, VA.
Some members of the family went into Tennessee and Kentucky in the late
1700's and that group spread out into So. Carolina, GA and Mississippi."
It seems to me that I've seen a fair amount of discussion about Halifax
County,
VA on here. Carroll County, VA sounds awfully familiar as well.
SO, if you have a Strange-Chapman connection please let me know, I'd be very
interested in talking to you.
Thanks and have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
Corey Chapman
