Karen, these are my Chapmans... Isaac and Sarah Cole's
son John who moved to Giles County, VA (New River) and settled at Ripplemead
eventually is my great great great grandfather. His son John married Dicey
Napier and they had two children before he died accidentally prior to 1793
and one of those children was George Chapman, whose son John Henry Chapman
(and three other brothers) all moved from Iowa to Oregon circa 1853-54,
where their descendants are still living. Bob Casebeer, Oreon.

The information that I have about the John who settled in Culpeper
Co in
that his ancestors came from England and first settled in Connecticut.and
emigrated to Charles Co. Maryland.long prior to the American Revolution.
After the settlement of MD and before the Revolution, some of them came to
Culpeper Co VA and settled: Isaac who married Miss Sara Cole and had 3
sons
and 1 daughter. Isaac, John and Richard and Jemima. Issac went south
to
Alabama shere his descendants still reside. John married Sallie Abbott
and
Richard married Margaret Abbott, daughters of Richard Abbott of
Culpeper
Co,
VA and the Daughter married Mordock O. McKensey
In Nov. 1768 John Chapman, Richard Chapman and Moredock O. McKensey
removed
from Culpeper Co to Shenandoah, in the Valley of VA and from thence
in
1771
came to the New River Valley and settled at the mouth of Walkers
Creek
where
John Chapman had to dwelling houses destroyed by the Indians; his
family
being forced to flee the Snidow Fort for protection. In the spring of
1778
McKensey removed to the mouth of Wolf Creek, where his family, in May
of
that yr. was attacked by the Indians and a portion of them killed and
another poartion carried into captivity. Some years afterward time not
definitely known, Richard Chapman removed from Walker's Creek to Wolf
Creek.
In another place I have that the John Chapman b. aby 1700 in Charles Co MD
died befor 1765 in Culpeper Co VA and was the son of Edward. This doesn't
match the above information. The above doc. also has names of
descendentsif
any one is interested.
