Here lies the remains of Col. Benjamin Chapman Isle of Wight County was born July 20,
1815and died 6th of November 1857 "To commemorate his virtures as a man, gentleman
and citizenthis monumentis erected.
Beneath this tomb lie the remains of Mrs. Elizabeth Chapman who departed this life April
30, 1869aged 53 years. "None knew her but to love and esteem her."[All marker
are flat. That over Mrs. Chapman'sgrave is wider than the usual flat stone.]
Beneath this tomb lies the remains of Mrs. Indiana M. Vellines Who departed this life May
1, 1858
Aged 18 years and 29 days. "She was a kind and devoted wife. Her every smile was
love. She lies here lamented by all who knew her. Farewell, sweet Indie."[Sister of
Mrs. Chapman]
