I came across a website that has info on Chapmans in
Culpepper Co, VA; Shenandoah; also New River Valley,
Walkers Creek, Wolf Creek, but location of these last
three sites is not specified, but it would be either
VA or WV. It mentions that these Chapmans came to VA
from MD "before the beginning of the Revolution." The
article goes on to list Chapman descendants in many VA
locations, as well as other states. It first mentions
an Isaac Chapman who married a Sara Cole. Children
were Isaac (who went to Alabama), John, Richard,
Jemima.
Surnames mentioned were Abbott, McKensey, Tracey,
Rowe, Johnston, Clay, Napier, Alexander, Miller,
Harman, Peck, Bane, Emmons, Johnston, French, Snidow,
Gillespie, Pearis, Hall, Brian, Lybrook, Freel,
Pepper, McDonald, Fowler, McDonald, Kyle, Hoge, Hale,
Mather, English, Dinwiddie, Chanceleum, Goodrich,
Lucas, Angel, Tiffany, Symns, Williams, Daugherty,
Alvis, Hereford, Sanders, Anderson, Bierne, Pendleton,
Cecil, Strother, Taliaferro, Crockett, Painter,
McComas, Thrasher, Mason, Smoot, Ellett, Wilburn,
Jordan, McClure.
The website is the Kinyon Digital Library, at
http://www.kinyon.com/index.htm
Click STATE DATA, then Virginia or West Virginia.
Then click A HISTORY OF THE MIDDLE NEW RIVER
SETTLEMENT AND CONTIGUOUS TERRITORY BY DAVID E.
JOHNSON.
Then, in the table on the left side, under
biographical, go to BURKE-CHAPMAN.
Hope this helps a few Chappies locate some more data.
Happy Hunting. Pat Pulasky
