Deb,
Re: your question as to whether any Chapman's in the southern states were
related to those in northern states, such as CT and MA
I know of a southerner, Robert Hett Chapman, whose father, Jedediah Chapman,
was from East Haddam, CT. At the time of Robert H. Chapman's death in 1833,
he lived in Tipton Co., TN, although he was in Virginia on business when he
died. His will is filed in Tipton Co., TN.
Although I do not know if/how he was related to Robert H. Chapman, my
gggrandfather, Francis Marion Chapman, who was born in NC, lived in Tipton
Co., TN from 1825 until his death in 1897.
Below are three pieces of information on Robert Hett Chapman:

Gary: Do you happen to know if the Chapmans in the southern states
were in
any way related to Chapmans in the northern states, i.e. Connecticut and
Massachusettes?
Thanks.
