Hi Karen and all listers,
I was researching for another Chapman lister, who is not in my line.
He is searching for Hezekiah CHAPMAN found on the 1850 Census Tallmadge,
Summit OH,
then married Martha PECKHAM. Attempting to connect Hezekiah to
(Augustus) Porter,
and Nathaniel as his possible father, and Uncles Titus and Richard, all
shown in early 1800's census
records in Tallmadge, OH, originally from CT.
Augustus Porter CHAPMAN is on this well outlined rootsweb family tree,
which is
I stumbled on last night, which is worth taking a look for any CHAPMAN's
researching in New England-

I am sorry I do not have any information about your John R. CHAPMAN b
1809 NY,
with wife Sophronia HUNTLEY. Wish I had something to offer you.
And another lister asked me about VA, which I am afraid I am also not
familiar with
any CHAPMAN's in that area. I was told a long time ago, the Chapman's in the
north and the Chapman's in the south are from different lines, for whatever
that is worth.
Karen, I hope a researcher will see the subject line with your family
identified
and have some good info for you !

Diana,
I too thought at one time my John R. Chapman was connected to Jean's
Chapman's and have put my research on hold for sometime now but your searches have
sparked my interest.
I'm working on memory here: John R. Chapman b. about 1809 NY was found as
early as 1830 in Manlius Onondaga County land dealings. In I think the 1840
census he has a William living near by. John remains in Manlius/Fayetteville and
appears to have died after the 1870 census. He was married to Sophronia
Huntley and the Huntley Assoc. told me he was probably buried in Kirkville.
Kirkville is on the border of Madison County and Onondaga County. John R's
granddaughter said in his son's Civil war papers that John's son was born in
Kirkville. John's eldest son my great grandfather was married the first time in
Madison County.
I'm wondering if you know if any connections can be made between John R.
Chapman to:
Zenas, Moses b. 1790 CT, William, Farnham Chapman. In Onondaga or Madison
Counties.
I don't know what the R. stands for.
John R. named his children Celestia, Adelbert and Eugene none of which were
Huntley names. Farnham named his daughter Celestia.
Thanks for any input!
Karen
