George,
I found your unmarried Martha T. PECKHAM on the 1850 US Census
for Tallmadge, Summit, OH.
So then I looked thru the list of CHAPMAN's in the same town on
the same census and found your Hezekiah CHAPMAN, with his name
misspelled Herekeah CHAPMAN. That is probably how they met,
both living in Tallmadge, OH.
Hezekiah occupation is listed as a "Potter", which fits with my earlier
email, where he is a Kiln Setter in 1880.
1850 US Census, Tallmadge, Summit, OH

SHOOT, William, age 27, Potter, b NY
--also found on the 1850 Tallmadge census
are Edgar G. CHAPMAN, age 40 b CT, but he is married
to Lucy Ann, age 28, who was obviously a widow with
a daughter Mary O. Wright, age 7 and their daughter
Emily H. CHAPMAN, age 2, all born in CT, so Lucy Ann is
a fairly new arrival to OH, less than 2 years....
--and another entry on the 1850 Tallmadge OH census--

TRIP?, Sauel, age 17, Laborer, b OH
(based on the ages of Harry and Thomas, this family came from CT to OH
about 1827-28.
Perhaps the CHAPMAN's and PECKHAM families came together from CT to OH ??)
So then I looked for the name CHAPMAN on the 1840 census for Tallmadge,
Summit, OH
and Voila--there is a PORTER CHAPMAN living next household to George
PECKHAM !
Porter has a male tick mark (age 15-20) which could be Hezekiah, so I
think we have found the
father of Hezekiah CHAPMAN !!! :-) Females were (2)age 10-15 and (1) age
30-40,
so Hezekiah had two sisters and a mother on the 1840 census.
On the 1830 Tallmadge, (then)Portage Co., OH census there is listed a
Richard (age 30-40), Porter (30-40),
Nathaniel (20-30) and Titus (30-40) CHAPMAN.
Perhaps they are brothers?
In 1860 US Census,
ancestry.com lists three Porter CHAPMAN's
-in Norwich, Chenango Co., NY (Porter, age 21, Clerk, b NY, perhaps a
bro of Hezekiah or a cousin??)
-Seneca, Ontario Co., NY (Porter S. age 65, b NY, is living with an Ira
G and Hannah TOMPKINS family and an Aaron CHAPMAN age 18
-in Reading, Schuyler Co., NY, Porter S. age 50, b abt 1810
wife Ruth F. CHAPMAN age 48, dau Sarah A 23, George W 21(named after
George PECKHAM??), Aaron F 15,
Ruth F 13, Wellington P 7
Here is your PECKHAM family tree on rootsweb, World Connect, Family
Trees, but
no parents listed for Hezekiah CHAPMAN--just in case you have not seen it.
Per this family tree, Hezekiah S. CHAPMAN and Martha Toles PECKHAM
married in 1853 in Tallmadge, Summit, OH.
