I am from a Chapman line that was reportedly in Mississippi in 1861. My oldest documented
ancestor, Andrew Joseph Chapman, claimed to have been born in Mississippi in 1861. Based
off census records and family legend he was separated from his parents (perhaps due to
their death) at an early age and only knew that his fathers name was Joseph. His life
between his birth and 1883 when he got married in Missouri is a complete mystery with me.
Looking at the Chapman's in Mississippi at the time, I have a firm belief (though I
haven't fully traced all the lines yet) that they all belong to the same family with
at least two brothers emigrating there in the early 1820's if memory serves.
I have a possible Alabama tie-in with the decendants of a William Washington Chapman who
reportedly lived in Alabama at the time. I'm waiting on the results of a DNA test to
see if we have a common ancestor or not. The test results are expected back in less than
a month!
What information do you have about your Mississippi/Alabama Chapman's?

Wow, Shelley...great job! I wish I was connected as well! Are there any
Chapmans on here from Alabama or Mississippi?
