I have received a copy of a Death Certificate for my G Julius CHAPMAN, born
Aug 23, 1841, Stockholm, St. Lawrence, NY, died May 7, 1918, Sentinel Butte,
Golden Valley, ND.
His parents are indicated as:
Name of Father - HIRAM CHAPMAN
Birthplace of Father - VERMONT
Maiden Name of Mother - POLLY SMITH
Birthplace of Mother - VERMONT
This is the proof I needed for DAR application, Mary "Polly" SMITH, born May
4, 1805, Tunbridge, VT is the wife of HIRAM CHAPMAN and the daughter of
Jesse and Hannah PEABODY SMITH and the granddaughter of Asael and Mary DUTY
SMITH. Mary "Polly" SMITH and Hiram CHAPMAN were probably married about
1822, probably Stockholm, St. Lawrence, NY. She died June 13, 1870 in
Kasota, LeSueur, MN. (Hiram CHAPMAN died about 1867, possibly Stockholm, NY,
or Syracuse, NY or Kasota, LeSueur, MN. Anyone know?????)
Does anyone know where Polly CHAPMAN is buried? Her son Levi CHAPMAN (died
1883, sawmill accident) is buried in the Catholic Cemetery, St. Peter, MN.
Her daughter, Sarah CHAPMAN SHAW (died 1903 per gravestone) is buried in
Kasota Hill Cemetery, Kasota, MN.
Is there anyone in the Kasota, MN area, who would be willing to check the
Kasota Hill Cemetery for her gravestone? Or in the Catholic Cemetery, St.
Peter, MN? I would be very grateful.
Should anyone need a copy of Julius CHAPMAN's North Dakota death
certificate, please contact me at dianaowen(a)wildblue.net
Many thanks,
Diana Chapman Owen
