And RARELY would anyone send through a legitimate email that only has a
link in it...with no explanation. Just be smart and do not automatically
click on things.

I don't know how they do it, but I know that e-mail accounts get hijacked
all the time. If you ever see a suspicious posting like that make sure you
never, never, never, click on the link in the e-mail. Not only will you
be disgusted, but you might get your own computer infected and you'll be the
next one having your e-mail account automatically sending the same message
on to everyone in your own address book!
The only way to stop it from spreading to a mailing list like ours is to
appoint a monitor. The monitor will have to approve every single posting to
make sure it's appropriate before allowing it to go to the entire list.
When the monitor goes on vacation or is not available, nothing gets posted
until he or she returns to approve them.
I am the monitor for an amateur radio list. In the last couple of months
several people, who I know personally, have had their e-mail accounts
hijacked. I know none of them would ever send something inappropriate or not
related to amateur radio to our list, but it happens anyway without their
knowledge.
Don't blame the sender of the e-mail. Don't blame the list. It's just
the sick world we live in.
