Sounds like your Gerard may have been a loyalist if he remained with the official church.
It might also explain why he would move to Canada right after the close of the Revolution.
Most "dissenters" from the Church of England were sympathetic to the
Revolution.
Just a thought.

strange request with no reference points to who this is addressed to.
However, I made an ocvious mustake about Gerard Chapma. He immigrated to Canada (to the
Montreal area) in the late 1790s (NOT the late 1890s) from Vermont. His two sons were
Orlando and Chester (names that were repeated in later generations). He was a member of
the Church of England (Anglican).
