Barbara forgive me for KITING by hitting reply. I typed in Keyword at top of
computer. "Abner Chapman of Pike County GA" and several places came up to
search. I did not have time to read all of them. The first was CFA References. and
it had his genealogy listed there. All researchers might try that. I do it
regularly.Try putting- Pike County GA for Chapman- etc. I find that faster.

THOMAS CHAPMAN and MARY OLIVE SMITH
Can any one advise me on the addresses of where to search ???
Maybe there are some I have missed.
In the Autobiography of his Great Grandson Arthur Wood Smith he is
spoken of.
In the Oral history of another Great Grandson Charles Jones Hays, {my
father} Thomas Chapman was a Mariner,
who on one of his many trips to sea, never returned in about 1840 to
1845.{unknown of what or where happened}
His wife Mary Olive {Smith} Chapman died of Cholera in 1834, she was
buried or burned in a mass grave in Halifax
when their daughter was 2 years old.
Thomas Chapman a Widower and a Mariner and Mary Olive Smith a Spinster,
Married Nov. 6, 1826, at St Pauls Angelican Church, in Halifax Nova Scotia
Thomas and Mary Olive {Smith} Chapman had one Daughter Mary Ann Chapman
Bn 1834 / Dd 1907
She married: William Charles Hays May 5,1851 at St. Marys Roman Catholic
Church in Halifax, Nova Scotia.
William and Mary Ann with 5 children immigrated to Boston in 1871.
When they died their bodies were taken back to Nova Scotia from Boston
for burial. in
Camphill Cemetery1890 and 1907, by their eldest Daughter Mary Hannah
{Hays} Gates of Boston.
Mary Ann lived with Arthur's Mother {Eva}and Father {Josiah}Smith. in
Boston from 1890 - 1904.
and lived with my grandparents Arthur and Beatrice Hays in Boston from
1904-1907.
Mary Ann {Chapman} Hays spoke often of her father,
It is believed her father took her to sea with him on many occasions.
when she was a small child, where she picked
up the language which was spoken at sea by fisherman.

Our William b. 1809, who came from KY to IL, had 3 brothers John, Edward,
and Jacob who was sometimes called Joe. I have no information on these 3
men and have been search in for some time. Would this fit in your family
tree?

Hi Dorothy,
First of all, please let me thank you for being such a nice gently
spoken person,
and trying to help.
I've been researching my Thomas Chapman for the last 30 + years to no
avail.
In my family their are many Mariners, and have been documented except
Thomas Chapman.
The following is all the information I have :
In the Autobiography of his Great Grandson Arthur Wood Smith he is
spoken of.
In the Oral history of another Great Grandson Charles Jones Hays, {my
father} Thomas Chapman was a Mariner,
who on one of his many trips to sea, never returned in about 1840 to
1845.{unknown of what or where happened}
His wife Mary Olive {Smith} Chapman died of Cholera in 1834, when their
daughter was 2 years old.
Thomas Chapman a Widower and a Mariner and Mary Olive Smith a Spinster,
Married Nov. 6, 1826, in Halifax Nova Scotia at St Pauls Church.
When they died ther bodies were taken back to Nova Scotia from Boston
for burial. in 1890 and 1907.
Mary Ann lived with Arthur's Mother {Eva}and Father {Josiah}Smith. in
Boston from 1890 - 1904.
and lived with my grandparents Arthur and Beatrice Hays in Boston from
1904-1907.
Mary Ann {Chapman} Hays spoke often about her father,
It is believed her father took her to sea with him on many occasions.
when she was a small child, she spoke
the language of the sea {terminology}

You might try emailing Leonard Chapman at lchapman36(a)earthlink.net
He lives in California and is a member of the Chapman Family Association and
gave a talk at one of our meetings on some California Chapmans.

do the research.. there are lists of marriners and seaman..on
several sites.... and without dates or locations we can't even
help with suggestions....
we don't know if you are talking of uk north sea or atlantic
mariners. or some in the new world...
if you do the basics then you are in a position to get help !
good luck... and
good luck is when opportuntiy and preparation meet... thats when
good luck arrives
