Virginia,
From what you say William & Elizabeth Chapman with son Robert should have
been in the 1850 census of Georgia. I found 11 William Chapman households in
that census but not of them fit your family.
Perhaps you might consider submitting an inquiry to the Chapman Association
Quarterly editor as I explained in an earlier message on this list.

Dear Virginia:
I gave up on my Chapman family a while back because I hit a blank wall.
But when the name Chapman and Curtis was mentioned it made me think about my
gggrandmother Martha Chapman, who married a Benjamin Parker. They were from
Monmouth County NJ. I think my gggrandmother may have been a Curtis. When
they lived in Philadelphia, after 1850 my grandmother had two Curtis boys with
her.
You did not mention what state your Robert Curtis Chapman was from.
Do you see any connection?

Mike,
We do have a little on some of these folks. Were you ever in touch with a
Barbara Chapman Madden of Dearborn Heights, MI. She is a granddaughter of
Gustavas Adolph Chapman. Apparently she did not know who his parents were. She
listed him as Jr. She sent the following in 1984 without any source:
...Gustavas Adolphus Chapman, Jr., criminal lawyer and resident of Hannibal,
MO. Born 1852 in Virginia, married 1886 Minnie Mae Brinegar in Gallatin, MO,
died 1916 after being paralized for 13 years. Four children- one of whom,
Gustavas Franzel Chapman was a colonel in the U.S. Army and is buried in
Arlington Cemetery since 1945. - 11/84 Barbara Madden
If you want it we have some data on her and her parents.
We did not have these children connected as son of John M. until we received
your email. Most of what I give below came from the LDS-IGI, probably the
circa 1984 version.
Consider that source as you use it.
Ole John was John M. and he and Jemima married Dec 21, 1898 in Rapp. Co. VA.
Gus and Minnie were married in 1886 in Daviess Co., MO
Lewis & Louella were married Mar 15, 1877 in Livingston Co. MO
Oliver who was listed in the IGI as OJ were married July 4, 1879 in Daviess
Co., MO.
CFA would appreciate it if you would share with us the other data you have on
the descendants of John M. Chapman and Jemima Nolan.
If you would like you can fix it up as a regular genealogy, modified register
format preferred, and submit to to the editor of the CFA quarterly with your
by line and address.
Thanks for asking. We made some Chapman progress.... at least on this end.

Maureen,
OK. If you have it in a computer file perhaps you could just send a GEDCOM
file.
If not, and you want to send hardcopy that will work. Send it to CFA Data
Central, POB 1297, Florissant, MO 63031.
I suppose that what you would like would be anything we can add to what you
send?

Fran,
That is a valid address for Kathleen. But she may be on vacation with a
saturated email box that prompts rejects. She just finished hosting the 2006 CFA
meeting in San Jose and may be off getting a rest.
It is ketovar not ketover.
Her mailing address is 3081 Atherton Drive, Santa Clara, CA 95051.
I hope she will see this as a violation of her privacy.
In 1994 Marilyn Baliff King was 42306 - 61st Street West
Quartz Hill, CA 93536. ph 805-943-5002
At that time she apparently had no email address. She was using a computer
because the family group sheet she sent was done by computer. Looking for her
email I did see a note on the family group sheet saying she is not sure of
any of the children.
She is not a member of CFA.
There is a little more in her file. Tell me what you want and give me a
postal mailing address and I'll send copies if applicable.

Maureen,
I'm sorry if I appear rude. I'm just trying to be helpful and efficient. I
need all the help I can get from those making inquiries. I did not see your
response to Karen until after I spent several hours looking for what I sent to
you.
Your thanks for the data I sent is appreciated and you are most welcome.
I still don't see how you can say they are your ancestors but that is all you
know about them. To KNOW that you are their descendant you would have to
know something about their child from whom you descend, and that persons child
from whom you descend, etc. You did refer to as a LINE and a couple in my view
does not constitute a line.
Now that is not rude, it is just a logical question. Surely you are not one
of those folks who has picked some couple out of history and claimed them as
ancestors and are now trying to find a trail to them.

Fran,
You did a no! no! there using the subject of the incoming message which you
used to send your message and you left all that impertinent stuff, not
applicable to your inquiry, pasted in your message. Now, please don't call me rude
like Maureen did.
I suppose you mean The Zachariah who married Mary Baliff (daughter of Daniel
Baliff & Sarah Thatcher) Aug 22 1797. We show him born 1771 and died Apr 18
1837. They had children John, Sarah, Nancy, and Susanna. He and Mary are
supposed to be buried in Summerside Methodist Cemetery in Union Township in
Clermont Co.
I suspect that 1771 birth was somebody's estimate - maybe mine. There was a
Zechariah Chapman b. Feb 29, 1761 in CT included in Rev. F.W. Chapmans 1854 or
1856 "The Chapman Family." He was the son of Caleb Chapman and Elizabeth
Clark. I don't know if the two can be made to connect or not. The CFA manager
for this Chapman (Robert b. 1616 England) Branch is Virginia Lance who I have
copied on this message. If he belongs to Robert this is her business and I'll
back out. Virginia is pastlink100(a)yahoo.com.
Everts "History of Clermont Co., OH" has four different entries for Zachariah
under "property holders in 1826. He and a Christian Ebersole are credited
with having laid out the town of Palestine on Sep 11 1818. He had a
granddaughter, Fanny Dillon, who married David White June 8, 1826
Have you ever been in touch with a Marilyn Baliff King of Quartz Hill, CA?
In 1994 she provided the family group sheet where I found some of the above
information.
As I have covered in several other messages I suggest you submit an inquiry
to the editor of CFA Quarterly.

Hey listers
1. Let's not bring "the I think this about you and you think this about that
person or think someone is rude, etc to the list"
2. As far as I can see, the CFA is going out of their way to help others.
The answers may not be to your liking, but their giving you info. The CFA
doesn't have to give answers to non members, etc.
3. Let's try to get these Chapman families together. Work as a group. Don't
worry about how much you worked or didn't work. THERE'S ALWAYS THE "DOERS &
NON DOERS"
KEEP THE DISCUSSIONS GOING. NOW TO THE SAYBROOK LINE. Anyone else searching
that, let me know. Carol list MOM
I really appreciate all the info that y'all have given me~~it's given me several
different ways to check my Chapmans!!! Thanks so much for all the help!!! Jean

[Hi Karen!!]
Then why are you interested in this couple. One would think they are your
ancestors in which case you must have a line descending down to you.
I just sent you some more on them.

Hi,
I cannot make the rules for Chapman_L nor do I want to.
I can make the rules for what I'll do as far as helping with inquiries using
our CFA data collection, and here they are.
As suggested by George Chapman several days ago... include in the subject the
name of the Chapman, approximate birth and death year and place and name of
spouse. If you don't have it all include what you have.
With the collection we have it is possible I could spend a whole day looking
through various files (much of the CFA collection is not computerized - yet)
so include in the inquiry what and where you have searched for the Chapman/s
involved so that I don't look at sources you have already checked.
Include all you know about those involved. We just had an inquiry here
where we were provided birth, death and marriage data on the couple with a request
for MORE on the LINE. I'll probably not respond to an inquiry in which I
sense that you have not included all you know, especially if you just ask for
more.
Either tell all you know or ask for specific information.
Sorry to sound so bureacratic but I'm spending a lot of time on these when I
have other important stuff to do.
.. Gil Alford, CFA Corresponding Secretary
Maureen,
You wanted to find more on the family you described but I sense that you did
not tell us all you knew so we could really tell what "more" amounts to and
you made no indication as to what or where you had searched.
Here is some more, but there may be a lot more if we just knew what you had.
William's parents were born in Kentucky and Eliza's were born in North
Carolina.
William and Eliza must have moved to Louisiana shortly after they were
married because daughter Rachel was born about 1862 in Louisiana and son William was
born there about 1865. Other children were born in Texas in about the years
indicated: Dora 1868, Robert C. 1871, Mary 1874, John 1876 and Eliza J. 1879.
Do you know if William fought in the Civil War or was he moving to keep from
it? If he was, and if he was in the CSA, you might find pension files in
Texas.
