I have Jane E. Chapman born 1840 who married Jonas Lingerfelt. Both from the Burke / Catawba / Lincolnton Counties of North Carolina. I have not been able to put a family with Jane. Perhaps she is part of yours? I also have a Charlie Hudson whom is the grandson of Jane and Jonas.
What do you think?

Subject: [CHAPMAN] Margaret "Peg" Chapman and Noah Hudson, Burke Co, NC
I am searching the Chapman Family in Burke Co, North Carolina. I have a
particular "brick wall" at Margaret "Peggy" Chapman, daughter of James C.
Chapman and Jane Hoyle Chapman. Margaret was born about 1814 in the South
Mountains of Burke Co, NC and had four sons and their fathers name was Noah Hudson
(believed to be the son of Thomas Hudson of Virginia). I would like to find
evidence of a marriage between Margaret and Noah and information about what
happened to Noah Hudson. Margaret raised her four sons in James Chapman's
household and they took on the Chapman last name.
Sons were:
1. Alexander Chapman (9/16/1834)
2. Nathan L. Chapman (1/9/1837)
3. William T. Chapman (8/11/1840)
4. Peter B. Chapman (1846)
I descend from Alexander Chapman and have extensive information on his line.
Since we are not technically Chapmans, we cannot participate in the DNA
testing. Hopefully some other descendant of Margaret Chapman has information
about Noah Hudson and is on this list. I am willing to share any info that I
have. Thanks. Linda

The more people that we have in the DNA project the more likely that there
will be a match, so that is a good idea. You might want to converse with
Dorothy Wogh about Abner because she knows more. I think that he married
Phebe Goodloe. and Phebe was from the same family as Dianna Durrett. Her
moms side - but they were a generation or 2 apart. They both married
Chapmans from Caroline Co. VA.

Can you give some locations in Indiana? My
ggrandfather had a brother James, but know nothing
about him or his family. I have info. that they lived
in Allen County but came from Ohio in the mid-1800s.
We may be cousins.

of the property listing all heira and often given where they lived and ages.

Go to familytreeDNA and you can get info on how to submit your DNA and
cost. We have a special Chapman data base. It is very easy. You only swab
the inside of your cheek a couple of different times and them send it in to
the lab and wait for the results. That is the hardest part.

This John Chapman is the third-great Grandfather of my
Daughter-in-law. So far I've not been able to push beyond John.
Descendants of John Chapman
1 John Chapman b: Abt. 1827 in New Market, Virginia d: in
Wheeling Missouri area
.. +Jemima Nolan b: Abt. 1827 in Virginia d: in Livingston
County, Missouri
........ 2 Gustavus Adolphus Chapman, Sr. b: Abt. 1850 in
Virginia d: Bef. 1910
............ +Minnie Brinegar
........ 2 Lewis A Chapman b: 01 Oct 1853 in Rappahannock
Co., Virginia d: Abt. 1928
............ +Luella Florence Benson b: Abt. 1859 in Missouri
........ 2 Oliver J. Chapman b: 10 Oct 1856 in Rappahannock
Co., Virginia d: 1924 in Missouri
............ +Carrie Russell
*2nd Wife of John Chapman:
.. +Old Lady Chapman
However, his son's names do not sound like WASP names, so I started
checking out the name Gusatavus and was a bit surprised. King Gustavus
Adolphus the Great led the forces of the Protestant League against the
Holy Roman Empire. He was Swedish and a Lutheran. I did a bit more
research and found a semi-famous Swedish Chapman:
> the innovative naval architect Frederik af Chapman was employed by the
> newly formed Inshore Fleet to come up with a new solution to Sweden's
> naval problems.
There is a Gustavus Adophus College in which I found many Chapman students:
> Gustavus Adolphus College
>
> independent, undergraduate institution located on about 300 acres (120
> hectares) in St. Peter, Minn., 65 miles (105 kilometers) southwest of
> Minneapolis-St. Paul. Its history traces back to 1862, when it was

> Adolphus, who defended Protestantism during the Thirty Years' War, the

It appears that my Daughter-in-law may descend from Scandinavians
Lutherans. Can some help me with this question? Could my Chapman
daughter-in-law be descended from Scandinavian Lutherans.
Thanks,
Mike
My brick wall is my g-g-g-g grandparents William A. (born about 1780 in VA) and Dolly (Dorthula Moore---born about 1785 in VA) Chapman. They came to Giles County, TN from Virginia about 1810 with their three oldest children and William's younger brother Benjamin. I have lots on info on them from that point up to now but I cannot figure out where in Virginia they came from or who their parents were. I do have a theory that they might have came from Henry County but I cannot prove it.
Is there anyone out there who knows something about these people?
Thanks,
Mike Chapman
Dorothy and Karen,
I have a Chapman family with tantalizingly similar names and family
connections to yours, but I haven't been able to "connect the dots."
Unfortunately, I am not in contact with any male descendants eligible for
DNA testing.
Here's the information I have:
Enoch Chapman born 1783 in South Carolina married Nancy Parker, born circa
1779 in Virginia. I noted at the Caroline County, Va. web site that there
were Parker families in Caroline County during the Revolution as well as
Carters and Chapmans.
Nancy and Enoch lived for a time somewhere in South Carolina then emigrated
to somewhere in Tennessee before finally settling in Perry County Alabama
in the 1820's.
Their children were:
William b. ca 1808 SC
John b. 1811 SC although he sometimes tells the census taker he was born in
Tennessee.
Abner B. 1815 Tennessee
James b. 1816 Tennessee
Nancy b. bef 1820
William named one of his sons Abner, and William's son George named one of
his sons Abner.
James married Mary Carter in Alabama in 1843. She was born in Tennessee
about 1821. Nancy married Robert B. Carter, a widower, in Alabama in 1836.
He was born in Virginia about 1794. One of their sons was named Reuben. My
guess is that Mary Carter Chapman and Robert B. Carter were related in some
way. These two families, along with James' brother Abner's family moved to
Ashley County Arkansas before 1860.

Did you read the message I sent that said that Samuel Chapman b. 1705 and
George Chapman b.abt 1710 (Son was Geo. Chapman b. 1736 who married Dianna
Durett) are related through DNA? Do you know a Chapman in that line who
would be willing to take a DNA test? I have always had the feeling that
they were related because we know that there were 2 Chapman/Durrett
connections even though they were different generations as I remember.

I am trying to find the parents of my ggggrandfather Abner Chapman. Married Phebe Carter in Caroline County, Va. March 1809.
In the 1810 census Caroline County
it shows the following Chapmans living close together. I know that Abner was living in Woodford County, Ky in 1850 by the census. His daughter Malvena Chapman listed with her children named Hagar. His son Anthony was still living with him. Phebe does not appear in the Woodford Co., Census. I believe she died before 1839. Phebe's brother Goodman Carter was living in Woodford Co., plus her mother and step-father.
Abner 894
Anthony 894, I believe his brother as one of his children was named Anthony, and Abner moved to Christian County, Ky. where Anthony was living.
George 896
John 894
John, Sr 897
Reuben 897
Richard 897
Robert 895
Robert 898
Robert, Sr. 897
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Would there be any one else researching the CHAPMAN family from Chesterton Cambridge?
Francis Chapman born 1846 married Eliza Norfield in 1866. They had 14 children.
William born 1865, Sarah born 1867, Francis born 1868, Ann born 1870, Thomas born 1872, George born 1874, Elizabeth born 1876, Harriet born 1878, Alice born 1879, Gertrude born 1881, Arthur born 1883, Edith born 1884, Harry born 1886, Earnest born 1888. All born in Chesterton Cambridge.
It is believed that one of the boys went to South Africa or Australia.
Any help with this family would be greatly appreciated.
I am willing to share any info that I
have. Thanks. Linda
Thank you for the information,
Margie

Searching for James Ira CHATMAN's father was the reason I started doing
genealogy and I often feel no closer to the goal than when I started.
James Ira CHATMAN was born August 31, 1898 or 1900 in Louisville or
Falls O' Rough, Kentucky. I have yet to find any evidence of his father
so I don't know which spelling I am looking for. James Ira's mother was
Mary Elizabeth POTTS and in the 1910 census, she was married to Jeremiah
MCGREW and living in Breckinridge Co., Kentucky. When James Ira filled
out his draft registration card in Faulkner Co., Arkansas, the last name
looks like CHAPMAN. James Ira's marriage to Violet Ella TATE occurred
December 27, 1925 in Faulkner Co., Arkansas. At that time he used the
name Ira CHATMAN. James Ira's son, James Wendel was born in Van Buren,
Sebastian, Arkansas on 12 September 1928. The last name was CHAPMAN and
corrected to CHATMAN. I have information from the MCGREW
half-siblings to James Ira about Mary Elizabeth POTTS ancestors, but
some descendents were not even aware of her first marriage. How can I
find birth information for James Ira CHATMAN/CHAPMAN or marriage
information for Mary Elizabeth POTTS and the mystery CHATMAN/CHAPMAN?
Thanks for any help.
I don't know where the politics are, but I love the
taglines!
