Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb
Thank you for sending the information. When I tried to use the first site,
they advised it had either been deleted or moved. On the second site which
comtained the Bilberry spelling, could you please reference where George
Bennett Bilbrey is located? I know the original spelling was Bilberry, but
my ancestors always spelled it Bilbrey. If you have any more info or
suggestions, I will appreciate receiving it, otherwise, thanks for trying to
help. I have been trying to find these people for 12 years now.

Pam, did you get my email about the info on Joseph and Nancy. I
have found out a good bit. But I think it showed the post bounced.
I have where Nancy is buried and info on Sanford and Lurene and
children, and second marriage of his and where Lurene is buried and
so forth. Lots more on all the other children as well. Not in good
order yet on the balance of children. Still have found nothing on
Kate Chapman Smith wife of Henry in Moultrie Co. IL. Do you have
anything on them?
Let me know if this goes through and I will get the Joseph info
together. I feel certain that Joseph is buried where Andrew and that
family and James the father was buried in Long Creek Township. Macon
CO. Point Pleasant Cem if memory is correct. Still have NOT found
my old Chapman Radcliff files and that info was in it and have not
found anyone to copy them again from Macon Co. records.

If I am reading this right, you are looking for a death record in WV but
Malinda was buried in Ohio.
This may or may-not be who you are looking for. The date is not the same.
I have a record for a Malinda Chapman d. 5/30/1890 in Putnam Co. WV. But
her parents are given as Ferth, Jo. and Mary. I think Ironton is just
across the river but you would have to check that out.

I would be interested in going to the convention. My grandfather was a
Chapman and I know of at least four individuals that might also want to go.

I'm still looking for info on the parents of my ggfather Henry Chapman b.
Feb 1857 in Lawrence Co, KY & was married to Louise Waitz in 1881 in
Lawrence Co OH.
Henry's mother was Malinda Unrue b. 1822 and Henry's 1943 obit states his
father was John Chapman. This is the only evidence that gives his father's
name.
Have been unable to locate a birth certificate for Henry and have found
nothing on his mother Malinda except the 1860 Lawrence Co, Ohio census has a
Malinda Chapman with a young male Henry McClure, included with a family
consisting of Rebecca and Samuel Caudle, but the 1870 census has Malinda
Chapman and Henry Chapman this time just the 2 of them. Could it have been
Malinda McClure and Henry Chapman and the census taker made an error??
In 1897 Malinda Chapman was buried in Woodland Cemetery in Ironton,
Lawrence Co, Ohio. Cemetery can't locate the lot record although at one time
when I spoke to them they told me her sister a Gelina Wooten owned the lot
where Malinda is buried.Malinda was living with her son at time of death in
WV but WV death records for 1897 not available. I have been told the funeral
home records of Bingaman & Jones were destroyed after the owners died.
Not much is known about Henry's childhood. The family story goes that
Malinda remarried and 2nd husband went west to gold rush and never returned.
Malinda then took back the Chapman name. To date I have found no marriage
records for Malinda to anyone. Perhaps she was a Chapman married to a
McClure that went West or an Unrue? Does anyone know of a Chapman family
that had at least 2 daughters; Malinda and Gelina ?
Any help would be appreciated in getting past this brick wall.
Thank You,
Teddy Chapman Lange
Hi again list!
I thought maybe you would all appreciate a funny story about my great grandfather.
My grandfather told us that before he was born (ca 1914) his father was approached by a man who wanted to start a factory to produce the new horseless carriages! Well, my
G-grandfather didn't think too much of those machines and really didn't think they'd catch on with the general public. He told the man "No, not interested".
Well, it turns out the other fella found enough backers to get his factory going and became a huge success. His company is still in business after all these years.
Guess who the fella was?!! HENRY FORD!! Ha!
My Great Grandfather was a business man in Celina Ohio. He also operated a dredging business with his brothers. They traveled all over the midwest doing dredge work.
He was married once (which resulted in my grandfathers birth and sibs.) and again, after divorcing, to another woman and had another son.
There has been a rumor in my family as long as my grandfather remembers, that his father MAY have had another child or more, in Texas. This may have been sometime after 1920-1945. When he died, 2nd wife pretty much took everything that was left. It is known in the family that he held a LOT of bonds, possibly in return for work done for some states, counties or towns. NONE of those bonds were found when he died. It is thought that they may have gone to an illegitimate child or girlfriend.
If anyone has a Chapman from Texas, that might have had a father from Ohio, please email me on this list or in person. We are interested in finding out if the rumor was true.
Mari, you've done a wonderful job for a long time. I may not always post to the list, but I do read each posting and understand the enormity of what you do. Keep your chin up!

Sorry for replying so late to this message. I have been in the garden with my produce, weeding and harvesting and putting up for winter. No time for email lately!
I am in Champaign Co, Ohio, which is next to Union Co. I am from Union Co. and my family still resides there.
I have Curry's History of Union County Ohio, which was published in 1915. There are references to Chapmans there. I am willing to do lookups, in this book only, for any one who finds ties to Union Co. Chapmans.
Unfortunately, my Chapmans were NOT from Union County originally and I still can't find anything past my brick wall---John Chapman!!
Also, I recently was in Mohican country in Ohio and attended the Johnny Appleseed drama that is being presented there. It is a great show and the surrounding area is all woodland. It will remind folks what the Ohio country may have looked like a couple hundred years ago!
If anyone has the inclination to travel to Ohio, please don't miss this outdoor drama OR the Johnny Appleseed museum in Urbana, Ohio.

Yes Jack,
Your Marysville connections do count for something. I loved your comment in
an earlier email that you thought your Chapmans moved to Ohio so that you
could meet your wife. How charming - your wife's a lucky lady. I meant to
reply, buty things have been a bit crazy around here.
But, when I asked you about your lines, you said they came from WV and KY so
I knew they weren't my lines. My Marysville Chapmans came from CT via MA to
OH and stayed in OH from 1804 until 1915 (Worthington, Sunbury, Marysville -
and somewhere in Logan Co. too). Several of them are buried in the cemetery
in Marysville (Oakdale? - I'd have to check my records). They are Charles S.
Chapman d. 1915 and wife Anna K. Chapman (a lifelong resident of Marysville)
d. after 1936 and their grandson Frank Miller Chapman d. about 1956. (I
have all these dates, just don't have time to look them up just now). I'm
running out the door.
Charles' father Albert S. Chapman should also be buried in or near
Marysville, but I have not been able to find him. Will post the whole line
here soon, just want to make sure I have all the folks entered correctly.
Gotta dot all your i's and cross all your t's with this source aware crowd.
LOL :-)

1900:
1880 census, WILLIAM C. CHAPMAN and His Wife MARY were living in Trinity
Co,Tx. Apple Springs P.O. - Evidently they moved to be near her
brother,THADDIUS C. HARE. They are in the same E.D. and same page of this
census. Also listed is a JOHN B. CHAPMAN?? Born Rankin Co., Miss. & family,
some of J.B.CHAPMANS children and grandchildren married HARES, CHAPMANS and
PARKERS in Trinity Co., Texas.
The only place that the middle name "CASON" has ever been found is on a
his Headstone and on a sign honoring the Civil War Veterans at Samsom
Cemetery, Seal Texas. It is very possible that his middle name is "CASE",
his third child is named "WILLIAM "CASE" CHAPMAN.. The "CASON" name is a
very common name in the "HARE" (his wifes) family.
WILLIAM C. CHAPMAN Died 8 March 1907, at Bald Prairie, Robertson Co.,
Texas. He was buried at the Samsom Cemetery, Limestone Co., Texas.
Note: His Marker shows that he was born in 1820, on Pension papers and
Census records the ages shown calculates out that he was born in 1830 not
1820. If 1820 he was 41 when married and 42 when he enlisisted in the Civil
War. On the 1880 census William gives birth as AUG. 1829
Note: The only place that the middle name "CASON" has ever been found is on
his Headstone and on a sign honoring the Civil War Veterans, this is also at
the Samsom Cemetery, Seal Texas. It is very possible that his middle name
is "CASE", his third child is named WILLIAM "CASE" CHAPMAN. The "CASON"
name is a very common name in the "HARE" (his wifes) family. Williams father
in law was Thomas Cason Hare.
My Great Uncle WILLIAM ROBERT (Bill) CHAPMAN said that his Grandfather W.C.
CHAPMAN was born in Illinois then moved to Georgia then to Texas (he left
out Louisiana) he also said that his Dad. ROBERT S. CHAPMAN was born at Old
Stockdale Tx. This is incorrect, Robert was 7 mo. old when the 1870 Census
was taken 1 June 1870 in Robertson Co., Texas. The move to Wilson Co, Texas
took place about 2 yrs. later.
Also see notes on unrelated Uriah Chapman.
Notes for MARY A. ELIZA HARE:
MARY A. ELIZABETH HARE
Born: About 1838
Widows Pension:
Application # a13494 Approved 21 Mar. 1908.
MARY E. CHAPMAN, P.O. Seal, Robertson Co., Tx. ?
and has lived there 12 years. Is 70 years old.
And that WILLIAM. C. CHAPMAN died 8 March 1907.
Pension Info. states that MARY E. CHAPMAN died 22 June
1924 at
Bald Prairie, Robertson Co., Tx. in the home of her
grandson
JESSE DENMAN P.O. Marquez, Tx., and that she died from old
age.
MARY should be buried next to WILLIAM C. CHAPMAN at
Samsom Cemetery, Seale, Limestone Co., Tx. If so, she has
no marker.
Note: There is a small marker with the #19 on it and
also
a foot stone just to the right of W.C's. grave, this
should be
the unmarked grave of MARY. At one time records were
kept on the numbered marker at Samsom but they have
been lost.
1870: Census, MARY gives her birth place as Georgia.
1880: Census, MARY gives her birth place as Florida
and both parents birth place as N.C. Why the change ???
1900: Census, MARY gives her birth place as Florida again
but she gives both her parents birth place as S.C.
Family History says that MARY was a school teacher during the Civil War.

Chapman Researchers;
Haven't posted my search for some time. Hope that some helpful and generous person may have some information. This seems to be a dead end or Brick Wall for me.
Great Grandfather James O. (believe middle name..Oliver) Chapman, was b. abt 1818-1820 in TN. DOB varies slightly from one source to another. His CSA Military record indicates he was b. in Knox Cnty, TN. Father (Unk) was b. in KY, Mother (unk) was b. TN. Reliable source indicates J.O. was orphaned as child and grew up in the home of a Mr. Vaughan / Vaughn in TN. Nothing more is known of Mr. Vaughan.
J.O. Chapman married Mary Jane Williams, Mar. 28, 1847, in Bibb Cnty, AL. She was b. Mar. 1, 1830, in Bibb Cnty, AL, Daughter of William Williams.
Children: Ruth Ann Chapman, b. abt. 1851, AL
Martha Ellen Chapman, b. abt. 1853, AL
William J. Chapman, b. 1857, AL, ..... My Grandfather
John W. Chapman, b. abt 1865, MS
James Edward Chapman, b. abt 1869, MS
Family moved from MS to Hill Cnty, TX, arriving just after 1870 census.
Ruth Ann married John Helton, in Hill Cnty, TX, 1874
Martha Ellen married George R. Tucker, Nov. 1, 1877, Hill Cnty, TX
William J. married Susan Elizabeth Wales, Feb. 5, 1879, Bosque Cnty, TX
William J. and Susan Elizabeth moved their young family to Indian Territory (that area which is now Jefferson Cnty, OK, in 1889.
Any information whatever would be greatly appreciated. Any Chapman descendant with an association to a Vaughan family please advise.
Thanks
Glen Hamilton

Searching for my maternal biological ancestry.
My mother's birth certificate states: Father: James S. Chapman, age 26 (born about 1886) in Iowa, Ind. or Il. (iillegible) He was a farmer but by 1914 had disappeared.
His wife was: Annie Mae Shoemaker, born abt 1888 in Kansas.
In 1912 this family lived at Yeager, Hughes County, Oklahoma, but their mailing address was Holdenville, Oklahoma. A few documents from the orphanage refer to the father as James S. "Dude" Chapman (some Dude!). My mother (birth name Goldie Jewell Chapman, born 03 April 1912) and her older sister Rosa (Rosie) Belle (probably born abt 1909-1910 and adopted by people named Hooper in Ok) were taken away from their sick mother after the father deserted them.
Annie Shoemaker Chapman's mother, a widow, Mary, married W. J. Witt and they lived in Wagner, Ok in 1914. A 1910 census report puts Mary V. Shoemaker in Wagner as a widow and a boarder. The census info says she had 5 children but none were listed with her at that time. Anyone know anything about this family? Nothing in the 1910 census on this James Chapman in Oklahoma. Any of this sound familiar to anyone? Any help would be greatly appreciated. By the way, the discussion on heritability of traits has been very interesting. I just arrived home and almost went blind reading
all that 8 days can produce!!
Mari, you are the best Rootsweb director I know.
and I am on 5 lists. Don't let us wear you down
--we need you!!! Please stay on-- WE REALLY NEED YOU !!
Noni
