Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb
If you believe they are buried in any of the following places let me know
and I will check.
I am the restart Pastor of Bethel Church. It is a church started by the
Chapmans. The property has a burial ground for the Chapman family.
I live in Georgetown County and travel to Charleston every month or so.
There is also the prosperity ground which is close to Saluda where Bethel is
located.

Neil

Unfortunately, no, I do not know where <<my>> Joseph Chapman is buried. I
suspect, however, that this was in the long-gone City Burial Ground, which I
have been told eventually became a parking lot near the Citadel. One of my
other ancestors - not a Chapman- was buried there, according to the early
Charleston city records.
I am not aware that Joseph was buried in the Chapman family plot in Magnolia
cemetery, where two of his sons are buried, my ancestor, Capt. Samuel
Chapman, and his brother, Capt. Emanuel Perry Chapman, with some of their
families. Nor do I know where the two other children are, Joseph [Jr.] and
Sarah, both of whom died young, nor where Joseph's wife, Jane Fleming
Chapman Porter, is buried. Family tradition says she died in New Orleans, so
I would guess she is there somewhere, if this is true.

I found this website on another mail list; it covers
any state that you might be researching in. Although
it's a "work in progress" it already had some new
links for me.
Go to:
http://www.linkpendium.com
Click on:
A 146,584 American genealogy link collection
(Even though all states and counties are listed as
"work in progress" click on them anyway, as there are
already hundreds of good links listed.)
Do you know where this "Joesph" is buried?

Yes these would lead me to some of the same conclusions.Generation after
Generation has kept many of these given first names. When a Religious
historian asks me about Rev. Giles Chapman I have to almost laugh.
BTW interesting enough Rev. Elijah Linch who was married into the Giles
Chapman line had a cousin who was a signer of the declaration of
Independence who lived near Charleston. In fact he lived near where I am
writne now in Georgetown County on a planation. My understanding is that
there was a few Chapmans and Lych's that lived near Georgetown and
Charleston durint the times near the American Revolution.
I believe that Rev Giles Chapman who is was at Prosperity SC (20 miles from
Newberry) served in the Army as Chaplain. But I believe his unit was out of
Virginia.
Some information of the given names.
When we look at the Giles Chapman (was born 4 January 1701/02 in England,
and died
December 1789 in Newberry Co, SC) & Sarah Jackson (was born 4 January
1701/02 in England, and diedDecember 1789 in Newberry Co, SC) line we see
their childrens names are:
Elizebeth
Samual
Joseph
Rachel
Sarah
John
William
Giles

<<My>> Joseph Chapman, who died about 1810 in Charleston, SC, named his
three eldest children Joseph, Sarah and Samuel, which has lead me to believe
he was of the Giles Chapman family. But which branch remains unknown, though
I have my suspicions. He married about 1802 in Charleston, Jane Fleming,
whose family, based on census records, I suspected also to be of Newberry
Co. SC.
Your message would lead me to wonder if <<my>> Joseph was of the family you
outline. Do you have any indication of this?

Leslie;
Don't know if any relationship but I had a Gr Grandfather, James O. (Oliver) Chapman, b. abt. 1820-1824, Knox Cnty, TN, (According to his CSA service record).
James married Mary Jane Williams, b. abt. 1830, Bibb Cnty, AL. They were married Mar. 28, 1847, Bibb Cnty., AL. Mary Jane Dau. of William Williams. They were in Perry Cnty. census 1850 with a Jane Williams, b. GA, age abt. 61 (assume Mary Janes Mother).
Reliable source indicates James O. Chapman was orphaned as a young child and brought up in the home of a Mr. Vaughan in TN. Have no other info. on Mr. Vaughan.
Seems likely that if James married in AL (those Bibb and Perry County lines changed about that time) he would have gone there with relatives or migrated to where relatives were. Have never been able to establish James association to another Chapman family.

Glen:
I'll keep your names for reference, and when (if) I can find some more we
might be able to make a connection. I have so little to go on right now except
the census that I just can't tell.
Thanks,
Leslie Hill
