Hi Thelma, I have William Chapman of Amelia Co, VA, died in Spartanburg, Co,
SC who had three sons; John H. "Jacky", William H, and Jones or James.
Jones(James) was born between 1810 and 1815 in Spartanburg, SC. I have not
been able to find him on the 1850 census although we was most likely living
as his father William Sr. wrote his will in July 1850 and stated that his
three sons should "divide his wearing apparel". John H. was already living
in Walker Co, GA, William H. was living in Spartanburg at the time and Jones
has not been found.
Some grandchildren of William ended up in Sebastian Co, AR, so that is
why I thought there might be a connection. The children's names that you
listed for your John J. do not match any of those for William's descendants
except Mary, Sarah and James and those are just common names. If you can
make any connection between your John J. and my Jones that would be great.
It is probably unlikely tho since Jones had a brother named John.
Good Luck, Paul Rekow

I thought that those Chapman's, and others, researching in Ma would be
interested in the changes just made.
Here is the excerpt.
"Massachusetts Doubles Vital Records Fees
The Massachusetts Registry of Vital Records and
Statistics is doubling its fees on April 1, 2003.
Individuals performing their own research at the
Registry will now be subject to a fee of $6 per hour,
double that of the previous fee of $3 an hour.
The cost of a birth, marriage, or death certificate ordered
in person has also doubled: $12 per certificate
instead of $6. The cost of a birth, marriage, or death
certificate ordered by mail will now be $22 per
certificate -- again, a doubling of fees.
The Registry's records include birth, marriage,
and death records that occurred in Massachusetts from
1911 to the present day. Records for events that
occurred from 18411910 are available at the
Massachusetts State Archives, which has a
separate fee structure.
The new fees of the Massachusetts Registry of
Vital Records and Statistics may be seen at:
http://www.state.ma.us/dph/bhsre/rvr/FeeIncrease.htm.
In a related development, the Massachusetts
Genealogical Council requests the support of all
Massachusetts records researchers: the
Massachusetts Legislature Joint Committee On Government
Regulations has scheduled public hearings
concerning proposed Vital Records bills for Thursday, April
3, 2003 at 9:30 A.M. in Room A-1 WHERE???. Call
(617) 722-2120 for hearing schedule confirmation
and directions. Several proposed bills would
close Massachusetts vital records. For more information,

Darla,
If you will go to Ancestry.com there seems to be quite a bit of information
on Welcome Chapman there. I am not related to his line, but I have seen it
during my research.
God Bless,

Darla, that Welcome Chapman is all over the place if you have the ancestry
membership. I am a Chapman and I have a Welcome Chapman in my tree, but he is
born 1821 in VT state also. Your Welcome moved to Utah and lots of family
members went with him. If you do not have the membership I will try to see
what I can do for you. The 1881 census for 12 ward, Salt Lake City, Salt
Lake, Utah is a good place to start. It lists his Wife Ann and 5 kids Snd
wife Susan, third wife Catherine, and their 5 children. Don't forget Mormons
can have multiple wives!.....Sorry I didn't answer sooner, but I was sure
someone else would. So you see It pays to make the follow
message.......Good luck..... Brenda
