For those interested, I've added Chapman's I've found in
Meriden, Ct; Lawrence, Ma; and Columbia County, WI for 1870 and
Chapman's found in Meriden, Ct for 1880 to my web site.
Also there are the Chapman's I found in the 1850 census for RI,
and those in the 1910 census for Glastonbury, Marlboro, New Britain,
Windsor, Manchester, Newington, and Rocky Hill.
Hopefully this will help someone.

Pat,
The census was for Lycoming Co. Pennsylvania, year 1810. Samuel is listed as between the age of 26-44.
The other listing for a Samuel Chapman says he was born Dec 27, 1778 in Sterling Run, Cameron Co. Pennsylvania. This one has a daughter named Mary (Polly) Chapman, b. Dec 1, 1810 in NJ (traveling maybe?), d. April 18, 1866 in Cameron Co. PA.
These are possibly two different Samuel's. The first one has a son listed on the census with him and his wife and a daughter. The other one I found on a search on rootsweb for Samuel. The age could be right to make them the same one, but there was no son listed on this page, (maybe the researcher hadn't been looking for one).
Will that help any?
Kim

Kim, What year was the census? There are quite a few Samuels in the FW
Chapman book - years are: 1786,1751,1745,1750,1778,1755 (2), 1780,1773
It's hard to tell which one to look at without more info. I didn't find a
Polly in 1810 listed, so perhaps he was not related to Robert of Say-Brooke.
If you can narrow it down a bit, I will be happy to look it up for you.
Good Luck! Pat

While in KY last week, I met a young lady researching Absolom Chapman and got
her information because I had hoped he was connected to my Butler Co., KY
Chapman's. Doesn't appear to be so but I'd like to know more about this
family. If anyone is interested in her information, I'll be more than happy
to share.
Absolom Chapman was born 24 Jun 1833 and died 9 Jan 1917 in Ohio Co., KY. He
was the son of Ellis Chapman (24 Oct 1798--1 Sep 1867) and Nancy Southard
(1801--1 Sep 1867). He married (1) Mary C. Brown (26 Oct 1839--10 Sep 1868,
d/o James Brown and Polly Wakeland) and (2) Julia/Judy Loney (14 Aug 1847--6
Jun 1902, d/o William Foster Loney and Peggy Brown). He had 24 children by
these two wives. She gave me a picture of Absolom and his family and a copy
of a sketch of his home place. His children later migrated to Ohio (the
state).

While reading a county history for Medina Co., Ohio I ran across the name of a Cyrus CHAPMAN. There was also mention of an Arvis CHAPMAN who was with him. Does anybody know anything about either of these men? I've been looking for the parents of Orvis CHAPMAN who was in Lorain Co. and am wondering if there might be a connection. The part of Medina Co. these men were in is not very far from where Orvis lived in Lorain Co.
Any help appreciated.
Thanks,

The 1790 Federal census shows three Chapmans as head of households in Pittstown, Albany County NY:
Ephraim 1-3-2-0-0-6
John 1-0-2-0-0-3
Samuel 1-2-3-0-6
All on page 32
Does anyone know if these three men were related and their ancestry. John is my ancestor. He shows as born abt 1764 d 1817 married Mary Nichols abt 1787. Had 13 children. Will share research.
Pat,
According to the census, he was in the 26-44 year age group, which is a wide gap!!
I found a Samuel Chapman, b. 27 Dec. 1778 who was born in Sterling Run, Cameron Co. PA, father to Mary (Polly) Chapman, b. Dec. 1810, who could be a possible fit. The age would be in the right category for that time period.
Does anyone know anything about this possibility?

Kim, does your information include an age for Samuel? That could help to
find out who he was and where he came from. Pat

I have a Chapman index for the 1851 & 1861 censuses for Hartlepool & West Hartlepool, County Durham, England. If anyone has Chapman forbears from that area, please mail me & I'll mail them the index.
Barry Chapman,
Tasmania, Australia.
My great grandfather was an English sailor by the name of John E. Chapman.
However I do not know what year he was born at this time. I do know that he
married to Mary Graves in Fallriver , Mass. She was born in 1890. They ended
up in Ionia, MI. If your information would help I would appreciate it. Thank
you.
Does anyone know anything about Samuel Chapman? I find him in the Lycoming County, PA census for 1810. This is the Nippenose area, according to the info on the census page. He is listed with another male and 2 females in the family.
I found him later in 1820 with another male in the family under 10 yrs.
This could be my brick wall, but I haven't found anything else on him. I live in Ohio and havent' had access to the PA index to see if he was still in PA in 1830 or 1840. If my ancestor was his son, the son shows up in Columbiana County Ohio in 1839. It is on the PA-Ohio border and I still haven't found Samuels name.
Can anyone give me hand?
Thanks!
Kim

I found a listing for Hezekiah Chapman and Joseph Chapman in the 1820 Salem Twp. Washington County, Ohio federal census. It would be in Marietta Ohio.
This is on the USgenweb site. It is on pg. 214 of the census. These aren't my Chapmans, but thought they might be someone else's.

There are 20 John Chapmans in Ohio in surrounding townships in the 1840
Census. You might want to check them out to see if any are your John married
to Malinda.
